A video showing thousands of people waving Turkish and Palestinian flags is going viral on social media with the claim that it is from Istanbul, Turkey, where a pro-Palestine rally was held.
Sharing the video, Sadaf Afreen wrote, “This is today’s picture of Istanbul, Türkiye!”
Ninja asserted, “Day 1 of 2025 and it’s still.”
Instagram User Wissam Nassar stated, “Thousands have overwhelmed the streets in Istanbul, Turkiye, on the first day of the new year 2025 in solidarity with the Palestinian people amidst the ongoing Israeli genocide!”

In our fact-checking research, we extracted keyframes from the viral video and conducted a reverse image search. During this process, we found a video tweeted by Gaza Notifications on January 1, 2024. The caption of the tweet reads: “First day of the new year in Turkey, Istanbul. Tens of thousands of people marched to Galata Bridge to attend the event ‘Mercy for Our Martyrs, Support for Palestine!'” We compared the visuals in both videos and confirmed that they are the same.
Further, we found a report by Al-Monitor dated January 1, 2024. According to the report, on January 1, 2024, tens of thousands of people marched, waving Turkish and Palestinian flags, and gathered at the Galata Bridge on the Bosphorus. The rally was organized by a foundation associated with Bilal Erdogan, the son of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. It was held to protest the war in Gaza and the killing of Turkish soldiers by outlawed Kurdish militants in Iraq.
