On X (formerly Twitter), an account by the name Syed Waqar Ali Haider (archived link) shared some pictures of cattle being transported in livestock carriers. He wrote a caption in Hindi which translates to, “Yemen’s Houthi organization captured it thinking it was an Israeli cargo ship, then it was found that this Indian ship was loaded with cows, then the Houthi organization released it, Hindu businessmen who sing cow songs, go abroad and slaughter their cows. Thanks to Houthi organization for exposing.”

According to the user’s claim, Yemen’s Houthi organization took cognizance of an Indian ship carrying cattle, mistaking it for an Israeli cargo ship. Then the organization came to know that the ship belonged to India and cattle were exported from there.

Islamist propagandist and the habitual fake news peddler, Kashif Arsalaan (archived link), wrote, “Yemen’s Houthi organization captured an Israeli cargo ship thinking it to be an Israeli cargo ship, then it was found out that this Indian ship was loaded with cows. The Houthi organization left him, the Hindu traders who sing the praises of mother cow send their cows abroad to be slaughtered, and down in India.”

Another Islamist propagandist account Mirza Baig (archived link) wrote, “Ghar main Mummy outside Yummy Yemen’s #Houthi organization captured an Israeli cargo ship thinking it to be an #IsraelTerroists cargo ship, then it was found out that this #Indian ship was loaded with Indian Moms #cows. The #Houthi organization left him, the #Hindu traders who sing the praises of mother cow send their cows abroad to be slaughtered, and down in #India ! #GodiMedia #Islamophobia_in_India #RSSTERRORISTS.”

The same claim was also amplified by many Islamist handles such as M.D Waseem Ramzani (archived link), Hafeez Al Akbar (archived link), Samad Raza (archived link), and Nazim Chaudhary (archived link).

2. Ship carrier is from Panama

Syed Waqar Ali account had shared two pictures in its tweet. We did a reverse image search of the first picture and found a video short uploaded by UmroiG channel on YouTube. The video clip shows the livestock carrier “Ocean Shearer” indicating that this ship was used for transporting the cattle. Furthermore, to obtain some information about the Ocean Shearer, we conducted a keyword search. It was found that according to information available on the website Marinetraffic, updated in 2012, the ship was built in 1980, making it 43 years old. The ship is operating under the Panamanian flag, meaning it is registered in Panama and operates under its maritime laws and regulations.

Further in the video shared by UmroiG, we found that the ship has the name of the company that has registered it under them. The letters ‘w,’ ‘a,’ ‘r,’ and ‘d’ were visible. When we were surfing various websites to gather information about Ocean Shearer, we found that according to the website Vesselfinder, in 2009, the shearer was registered under the company “Wellard”. The initials of the company’s name are the same as those found on the YouTube short video. Moreover, Ocean Shearer was decommissioned in the year 2012, almost 3 years after it was registered under Wellard.
