Viral Video Claiming Sikhs Refused to Fight Against Pakistan is False

A video is going viral on social media, showing a confrontation between some individuals and police officers. Several Pakistani social media accounts are claiming that Sikhs in India have refused to fight against Pakistan and will not follow orders from the Indian government. They also claimed that Sikhs have denied the use of Punjab’s land against Pakistan.

X handle named GHQ 111 Brigade wrote, ‘Brave Sardar Salah Shahzad of Indian Punjab, well done. Thank you for not joining Modi’s war and for not following Indian orders. Thank you for not allowing Indian Punjab’s land to be used against Pakistan. Khalistan will soon be free from India, Inshallah.

Kamran Siddiqui wrote, ‘Brave Sardar Salh Shahzad of Indian Punjab, well done. Thank you for not joining Modi’s war and for not following Indian orders. Thank you for not allowing Indian Punjab’s land to be used against Pakistan. Khalistan will soon be free from India, Insha Allah.’

Fact Check

We started our investigation by analyzing the video. The footage shows a conversation between police officers and individuals regarding ‘holding discussions during the day’ and ‘expressing distrust toward someone named Ravindra.’ However, there is no reference to Sikh refusing to fight a war against Pakistan in the video.

Additionally, we conducted a reverse image search of the keyframe from the viral video and discovered it on the Gabruu YouTube channel. According to the description, the person arguing with the police in the video is identified as Sarwan Singh Pandher.

Later, we discovered this video on the Facebook page of the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee (KMSC), a farmers’ organization in Punjab. The post indicates that on May 7, farmers had announced a rail blockade at Devidas Pura in Amritsar to demand compensation. Following the Indian Army’s late-night operation ‘Operation Sindoor’ on the night of May 7, the farmers chose to suspend their protest in the interest of the nation.

In our investigation, we further spoke with Gurubachan Singh, the Secretary of the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee (KMSC). He confirmed that, ‘considering the current situation, discussions had taken place between the farmers and the police to suspend the movement. He emphasized that the claims being made by Pakistan handles regarding this video are false. We stand with our country. Fake news is being spread with the intent to malign Sikhs and farmers.’
