Viral Video Claiming PM Modi Asking Guests to Step Aside to Pose For Camera is Misleading

In the midst of the Morbi bridge collapse tragedy, which has claimed more than 135 lives so far, the GSTV News shared a video on Twitter with the caption that reads “Even after the death of 140, Modi’s camera love does not go away, hinted to step aside” claiming that in order to pose for a camera, PM Modi is asking guest members who are about to enter the stage to step aside. The tweet was later removed by them.

Another Twitter user, Sathish Reddy, the TRS party’s Social Media Convenor, who has often shared misleading and fake tweets targetting PM Modi, also uploaded the video with the caption “This is Mr Modi, still concerned about his photographs even in the midst of Morbi bridge collapse.”

Sathish Reddy’s tweet was shared and quoted by Twitter user U2 Brutus with the caption “Can you see how long the camera is running?”

Fact Check

In our research, using the InVid WeVerify tool and extracting keyframes from the video, we came across a tweet by ANI and found that the video is from the inauguration of two railway projects costing over Rs 2900 crore at Ahemdabad on October 31, 2022. PM Modi flagged off new trains from Bhavnagar to Jetalsar and Asarva to Udaipur during the inauguration.

Further, using the keywords “PM Modi inaugurated two railway projects in Ahemdabad,” we discovered an original video on YouTube that was released on October 31, 2022, by the official page of PM Narendra Modi from the event in Ahemdabad where the railway project was launched.

After watching the entire video, we discovered that the reality in the original video differs from what GSTV News is showing. In the start of the video from 20 seconds onwards, PM Modi is seen entering on the stage to flag off trains from the railway station. Later, he is shown waiting for the other guests to get on the stage. From 52 seconds, when the PM notices the other guest members entering the stage, he beckons them with his hand to hurry and come on stage.
