Viral Image of British Two Twins Born in 2009 Shared with False Claims of Tragic Gaza Bombing Loss

The Times of Gaza, a news media company active on the X platform (formerly known as Twitter), shared an image (Archived link) of four infants allegedly killed and wrote, “Palestinian man from Gaza waited 16 years to have children and had two twins eventually, but they were all killed today, as well as their mother, in the lsraeli air attacks on Gaza.” The two twins were killed in the war between Israel and Hamas, according to the Times of Gaza.

Islamist propagandists and the fake news peddler, Sadaf Afreen (Archived link), sharing the same image wrote a caption in Hindi which translates to, “Palestinian couple had a child after 16 years! The couple had 2 twins each! Israeli bombing took the lives of these four small children and their mother. One day God will definitely answer for Israel’s crimes! #PalestinianGenocide #IsraelAttack #IsraelTerorrist #FreePalestine.”

Islamists sympathizer, Vinod Kapri, also endorsed the tweet by the Times of Gaza. He quoted them and wrote, “Don’t know how many painful and horrifying stories are yet to come.”

Fact Check

We began our research by conducting a reverse image search of the image and discovered a BBC report published on December 20, 2016, in which we discovered the same image of a set of quadruplets. We discovered the claim to be false and untrue after reading the report. According to the article, Lisa Kelly gave birth to four twin daughters in Birmingham in 2009.

We then conducted a keyword search for “Lisa Kelly gave birth to two twins” and discovered multiple articles. According to a 2010 article on the website Growing Your Baby, the first identical twin pairs were born in the United Kingdom. Heidi, Annabelle, Hannah, and Jessica were the names of the four girls. Furthermore, the post has the same image that is currently being disseminated with the false claim that a Palestinian mother in Gaza gave birth to two twins who were killed in the bombing.

Hence, the image of two twins has nothing to do with the Gaza bombings, and the claim that they were born to Palestinian parents and got killed is equally untrue and false.
