Fact Check

In our fact-check research, we first ran a relevant keyword search using “Mother Jyoti Pathak married her son Vikas Pandey” but found that no such news exists.

Further, we conducted a reverse image search of the mother-son picture and discovered that the story is entirely different and has nothing to do with a mother marrying her own son. According to Gulf News, where we found the same picture of the mother and her son, their names are Vijai and Kanhaiya Sharma, not Jyoti Pathak and Vikas Pandey.

Vijai, who was living in a village in the Aligarh district of Uttar Pradesh with her husband and two children, was convicted of killing a neighbor’s child, who was found dead in October 1989. However, she denied committing the crime.

When she was convicted of murder, she was pregnant with her third child, Kanhaiya Sharma, who is seen in the viral video on X. Vijai was sentenced to life imprisonment and sent to Lucknow’s Adarsh Nari Bandi Niketan women’s prison. After four months, she gave birth to Kanhaiya and raised him in prison.

Later in 1994, Vijai’s husband, Kanti Prasad, appealed to the Allahabad High Court and sought bail, which was granted in 1994 on the condition that he provide a personal bond of Rs 5,000 and two sureties who would pay the sum if he defaulted on the payment. However, Kanti Prasad couldn’t afford it, and Vijai continued her imprisonment.

After Kanhaiya turned 18, who had been raised in a juvenile home, contacted a lawyer, Arvind Kumar Singh, from Allahabad, who agreed to fight his mother’s case. Taking into account that Vijai had already been granted bail in 1994, the court ordered that she be released immediately.

Conclusion: The picture of the mother and her son going viral with the claim that they married each other is false. The picture is actually of Vijai, who was convicted of murder in 1989 and was released after 20 years when her son, Kanhaiya Sharma, appealed for her bail.
