Recently, a claim has been going viral on social media alleging that a man named Sandeep, son of Gulab, has seven different voter identity cards. A photo collage with voter identification details is being shared with this claim. The details of people named Sandeep Kushwaha, Sandeep, Sandeep Kumar, Sandeep Sahu, Sandeep Yadav and Sandeep Singh are listed as sons of Gulab or Gulab Chandra from Prayagraj district of Uttar Pradesh. During our investigation, we searched the EPIC numbers (Electors Photo Identity Card Numbers) of all the voter IDs on the official Voter Service Portal. The portal also provided us with the contact details of the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) linked to each ID.
We first contacted Renu Bala, the BLO for voter ID with EPIC number UCC2192383. She confirmed that this ID falls under her jurisdiction but stated that she had no information about the other six IDs. She also shared the voter’s contact number, through which we spoke to Sandeep Kushwaha. He verified that EPIC UCC2192383 is indeed his ID. He further stated that his father’s name is Gulab Chandra Kushwaha, his mother’s name is Sheela Devi, and he works in the field of medical supply. He resides in Nihalpur, Khuldabad, and confirmed that he possesses only one voter ID.
Next, we reached out to Raj Kumari, the BLO for voter ID with EPIC number UCC1163500. She confirmed that this ID belongs to her area, identifying the voter as Sandeep Kanojia. She clarified that the remaining six IDs do not belong to her jurisdiction.
We then spoke to Shankutla Devi, BLO of EPIC ID UCC2803864. She confirmed that the ID is valid and falls under her area. The voter, Sandeep Kumar, is from Mardanpur village, Post Manori, Prayagraj. She also shared the contact of the village head, Sushil Kumar Yadav, who affirmed that Sandeep Kumar (son of Gulab Chandra) is a registered voter in his village. He further clarified that the voter does not hold multiple IDs. Sushil connected us directly with Sandeep Kumar, who confirmed that he belongs to the Kori community, his father’s name is Gulab Chandra Kori, his mother’s name is Prabhawati, and he works in electrical repair. He also asserted that he has only one voter ID and has no knowledge of the other six.
Then we contacted Akshay Kumar Shakya, the BLO for EPIC ID UCC3607298. He confirmed that this ID belongs to Sandeep Kumar from his area and stated that no irregularities exist. To further validate, he even shared a photo of himself with the voter and connected us directly. Sandeep Kumar of this EPIC ID informed us that his father’s name is Gulab Chandra, his mother’s name is Gulabiya Devi, and he is a resident of Ahmadpur Pawan village, Post Pawan. He works as a painter and confirmed that he has only one voter ID, which he uses regularly for voting.
Similarly, we spoke to voter Sandeep Sahu, with EPIC ID UCC3877156. He told us that his father’s name is Gulab Chandra Sahu. He belongs to the Teli caste and works in a private hospital. He clearly said that he has only one voter card.
We also contacted Sandeep Yadav with EPIC number UCC3922713. He said his father’s name is Gulab Chandra Yadav and his mother’s name is Mansha Devi. He runs a medical shop from his home and confirmed that he too has only one voter ID card.
Finally, we reached out to Sandeep Singh with EPIC number UCC3497948. He told us that his father’s name is Gulab Chandra Singh and that he resides in Jayantipur Sulemsarai. He also confirmed that he has only one voter ID card and no connection with the other individuals named Sandeep.
We further spoke to SDM Abhishek Kumar Singh, who explained that an official inquiry was conducted following the rumours circulating on social media. The local BLO and revenue officer visited the homes of all seven voters for verification. It was confirmed that all seven are different individuals, belonging to different castes and engaged in different occupations, with no relation to one another. The SDM clarified that the claims being circulated on social media are false and misleading.
Conclusion: Our investigation confirms that the seven individuals named Sandeep, son of Gulab from Prayagraj are not the same person, as was being falsely claimed on social media. Each one belongs to a different family, caste, and profession, and all of them hold only one valid voter ID card. The inquiry by local authorities also verified this fact. Hence, the viral claim that all seven voter IDs belong to the same individual is completely false.
