CBSE Fee Hike news dates back to August 2019
A post is going viral on Instagram claiming that CBSE has increased the fees for SC-ST students by 24 times, raising it from ₹50 to ₹1,200.
In our investigation, we found that there is no recent news about this in any media.
Then, we searched for related keywords and came across a report by India Today, dated August 12, 2019. In this report, we found that in 2019, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) increased the registration fees for SC and ST students appearing for the 10th and 12th board exams from ₹50 to ₹1,200, while the fees for general category students were set at ₹1,500.
A CBSE official stated that, as per the revised norms, SC and ST students, who previously paid ₹50 for five subjects, would now have to pay ₹1,200. Similarly, general category students, who earlier paid ₹750 (or ₹ 50 per subject) for five subjects, would now have to pay ₹1,500.
For additional subjects, SC and ST students, who previously did not have to pay any fees, were now required to pay ₹300. General category students, who earlier paid ₹150, would also have to pay ₹300. Moreover, 100 percent visually impaired students were exempted from paying CBSE examination fees.
The CBSE stated that the fee hike was implemented pan India after a gap of five years.
In conclusion, the claim that CBSE has raised the fee for SC and ST students from ₹50 to ₹1,200 is outdated and pertains to the 2019 fee revision. Additionally, the fee for general category students was also increased from ₹750 to ₹1,500.
