Fact Check
Using the InVid WeVerify tool and extracting keyframes from the video, we came across a 1:29:19 mins long video dated February 23, 2019, on YouTube uploaded on the official channel of the Bharatiya Janata Party. The video is from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public rally meeting in Tonk, Rajasthan.
PM Modi is heard saying in the video from 59:44 minutes onwards that after a new government was established in Pakistan, adhering to the protocols, he contacted the new Prime Minister Imran Khan to congratulate him. During the call, Modi encouraged Imran to join him in fighting poverty, illiteracy, and religious intolerance in both nations.
He went on to say that in response, Imran told PM Modi that he is the son of a Pathan, he speaks the truth and behaves accordingly. (“Modi ji, Pathan ka baccha hu, sacch bolta hu, saccha karta hu”).
It is evident from the original video, PM Modi’s “I am a Pathan’s son” comment was attributed to Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan. The video shared by Congress and TRS party supporters is edited and cropped in order to mislead. In the past as well, several Congress and other party leaders have shared this video clip mocking PM Modi.
