Canada Govt has not banned RSS
Tensions between India and Canada have escalated in recent months, primarily due to diplomatic disagreements and the alleged presence of pro-Khalistani elements in Canada. Meanwhile, a video is going viral on social media claiming that a Canadian official has banned the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in Canada. As a result, all RSS workers will now have to return to India.
Sharing the video, the handle Shobhnath Rao wrote, “The Canadian government has banned the RSS and has ordered its workers to leave Canada. It has already begun, slowly RSS will be banned all over the world. The root of all troubles in India is the casteist, hateful organization RSS.” (Archived link)
Another handle wrote, “The Canadian government has banned the RSS and issued an order for its workers to leave Canada. Listen to more such decisions. The beginning has been made — gradually, RSS will be banned across the world.” (Archived link)

During our fact check research, we conducted keyword search on Google regarding this matter. During this, we came across the full video clip on a YouTube channel named NCCM. The title of the video says, “NCCM CEO Stephen Brown Calls for Action in Response to Alleged Assassination of Sikh Man in Canada.” Upon listening to the full video, it was revealed that the National Council of Canadian Muslims has demanded a ban on the RSS in Canada along with several other strict actions against India.
Further, we found a tweet by NCCM where they have publicly shared their demand.
According to the NCCM website, its a non-profit organization that works to raise the voice of Muslims in Canada.
On the NCCM website, we also found information about the person who is demanding a ban on the RSS in Canada. According to the website information, this person’s name is Stephen Brown, who is the CEO of the National Council of Canadian Muslims. He is the same person who is seen in the viral clip.
According to a report by MyInd, “The National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM), in collaboration with the World Sikh Organization of Canada (WSO), has put forward four demands to the Canadian government. These demands include the immediate recall of Canada’s ambassador to India, the expulsion of the Indian High Commissioner from Canada, the formal suspension of trade talks between India and Canada, and a ban on the RSS.”
In conclusion, the person whose video is being shared to claim a ban on the RSS is actually the CEO of the National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM), not a representative of the Canadian government. This makes it clear that the claim about the Canadian government banning the RSS is misleading.
