Videos of Colombians and Guatemalans immigrants deportation falsely linked to Indians
A video recently went viral on social media, showing immigrants deportation from the United States with masks on their faces, their hands cuffed, and their feet shackled. The accompanying claim alleges that these deportees are Indians being sent back to India in this manner.
While sharing the video, Ip Singh wrote, “Prime Minister Modi should cancel his visit to America if he truly has a 56-inch chest. America has expelled Indians with handcuffs, masks on their faces, and heads bowed in shame. At the very least, Modi ji could have spoken to Trump to ensure their citizens were sent back with dignity.” (Archived link)
Another handle, Kavish Aziz, wrote, “Masks on the faces, handcuffs on the hands, and shackles on the feet. Indians are being expelled from America with such cruelty.” (Archived link)
Other handles, such as Shahrukh Ali (Archived link), Sandeep Deo (Archived link), Saukeen Khan (Archived link), and VK (Archived link), also shared the same claims.
In addition to this, another similar claim is circulating. An image showing individuals in handcuffs and shackles is being shared with the assertion that it shows Indian immigrants being deported back to India.
The handle Pragnya Gupta wrote, “Indians clearly are treated here like prisoners while they are not only handcuffed but also leg cuffed while they are being deported from USA by Trump. @DrSJaishankar couldn’t you have atleast made our own arrangements to have them picked up from there, atleast they wouldn’t have had to travel so pathetically. They are over 200 immigrants in one aircraft with one toilet on such a long journey. That’s sad. Paw paw can stop wars but can’t do a thing for these bhakts who said they hold their heads high becos of how popular Paw paw was and how paw paw brought great name and fame to them and India.” (Archived link)
Another user wrote, “Handcuffed and chained by the legs, Indians are returning to Amrit Kaal. I have never seen this sight ever!” (Archived link)
The claim was also shared by other handles, such as Azad Parinda (Archived link), Salman Fan (Archived link), Rishav Koner (Archived link), and Prithviraj Sathe (Archived link).
During our research, we extracted keyframes from the viral video and conducted a reverse image search. During this process, we found the same video on a YouTube channel called Channel 4 News. According to the description provided on this video, it depicts the deportation of Colombian citizens, not Indians.
According to a CNN Politics report, Colombia reached an agreement to accept deported migrants being returned from the US after President Trump threatened to impose steep tariffs.
Colombia has agreed to all of President Trump’s terms, including the unrestricted acceptance of immigrants who had entered the US illegally. This agreement came after a dispute in which President Gustavo Petro barred two US military planes, carrying deported Colombians, from landing in the country.
