Fact Check

In our fact-check, we extracted keyframes from the viral video and performed a reverse image search. During this process, we found the same video uploaded by Patiala Politics on YouTube with the title ‘SGPC chief condemns stopping of Sikh youth wearing kirpan from entering Delhi Metro station.’ It was found that the viral video dates back to April 2022 and is not recent.

Next, we found a report by Dainik Bhaskar stating that in April 2022, an incident occurred at a Delhi Metro station where a Sikh man carrying a kirpan was asked by a CRPF personnel to remove his kirpan and have its size checked. However, the Sikh man objected to this and recorded a video of the incident.

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President, Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, condemned the incident. He mentioned that the Civil Aviation Ministry had recently issued a notification banning Amritdhari Sikh youth from wearing kirpans at airports, which was later withdrawn following protests by the SGPC. He further stated that now a policeman at a Delhi Metro station was forcing an Amritdhari youth to remove the kirpan and have its size checked. He emphasized that a large number of Sikhs live in Delhi, and no resident of the capital is unfamiliar with the religious symbols of the Sikhs. He also alleged that the incident was deliberate and called for strict action against the culprits.
