On February 13, 2025, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and U.S. President Donald Trump held a joint press conference. Amidst this, a video has gone viral on social media showing an Indian journalist asking a question. In the background, another journalist can be seen asking her colleague who is this guy, while making faces and laughing.

This video is now being linked to the recent India-U.S. joint press conference, with claims that the Indian journalist was mocked by the American journalist in this manner. Additionally, it is being alleged that Trump ignored the Indian journalist’s question.

Sharing the video, the handle Veena Jain stated, “American Journalists laughing at our spineless Godi media question asking skills Even Trump ignored his question, Godi media completely lost skill of Journalism in last 10 years while bootlicking people in power.” (Archived link)

Ashwini Soni asserted, “Look at the expressions of the American female journalist on the dock journalist.” (Archived link)

The claim was also made by other handles, including Che Krishna CK (Archived link) and Mirza Baig (Archived link).

Fact Check

In our investigation, we conducted a reverse search of the viral video and found a report by India Today. It was found that the footage is from a press conference held at the White House in February 2020, not from the recent press conference at the White House.

The video of American journalist mocking Indian journalist at White House press conference is five years old.

This press conference was organized by then-U.S. President Donald Trump to address the emerging threat of the Coronavirus.

The journalist seen in the viral video is Ebony Bowden, a reporter for the New York Post. The video captures her making mocking expressions in response to a question asked by Indian journalist Raghubir Goyal. This clip went viral on social media, leading to significant backlash against Ebony Bowden.

X (formerly Twitter) user Damon Imani had shared the video, calling out Ebony while appreciating Mr. Goyal, stating that “he has been a White House reporter since President Carter, and he speaks better English than most of us speak Hindi.”

Upon reviewing the full press conference, we found that Trump did respond to Mr. Goyal’s question and did not ignore him, as some claims suggested.

In the video, at 59 minutes time stamp, Mr. Goyal’s question was related to India-U.S. relations, in connection with Trump’s visit to India on February 24-25, 2020. In response, Trump praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling him “a great gentleman and a great leader,” and highlighted the strong and extraordinary relationship between the two countries.

In conclusion, a five-year-old video is being falsely shared as recent. The claim that the Indian journalist faced further humiliation when Trump ignored his question after being mocked by an American journalist is also false, as Trump did respond and called India-US relations extraordinary.
