A video is going viral on social media in which a woman is seen drowning in flood waters and a child is trying to pull her out. This video is being shared with the claim that this tragic incident occurred in Punjab, where a mother died after drowning while her son attempted to save her.
Sharing the video, Nazneen Akhtar wrote, “This child doesn’t even know if his mother is alive or not. He just keeps pulling along. The situation in Punjab has become extremely bad. The flood has caused terrible devastation, the government is busy with elections. If you can’t do anything, then at least pray for Punjab.” (Archived link)

Another handle SN Patel claimed, “This video is a poignant depiction of the Punjab flood disaster, where a small child is seen trying to pull his mother’s body out of the water, while people around are busy recording the video. Do they have no compassion in their hearts for this innocent child? The truth is, the child’s mother has not died, it is humanity in people’s hearts that has died.” (Archived link)

Fact Check
In our fact-check research, we found the same video shared by the handle Ashish Patel on X, who claimed that the creator in the video is Arti Gangwar from Pilibhit, who is risking her life by making such videos for her social media. He tagged the Pilibhit police and demanded action. In response, the police said that the incident took place in Jahanabad area of Pilibhit and they are investigating the matter.

Apart from this, we also checked Aarti Gangwar’s social media handles. Her social media bio says that she is a digital creator. Although we could not find the exact video on her page, we found similar videos of her pretending to drown in water, wearing the same attire seen in the claimed video.

Further, we contacted SHO of Jehanabad Pradeep Kumar Bishnoi who told us that the video is not real but scripted. The woman in the video is Arti Gangwar from Bhuda Magarsa village. Due to heavy rains, floodwater has accumulated in the area and Arti was making videos in the water for fun. However, considering the sensitivity, the video has been removed from her page.
In conclusion, the viral video claiming to show a mother drowning in the Punjab floods is not real; it is scripted. The video was originally shared by content creator Arti Gangwar from Pilibhit, who has made several such videos in her village for fun where floodwater had accumulated.
