In our further search, we found the same video shared on X by @SOHTV_NEWS with a caption in Chinese which translates to, “Characteristics of people defrauded into Myanmar. After analyzing the information of more than 800 people defrauded into Myanmar, the following patterns are found: 1. Age: mostly young people aged 20-30, accounting for nearly 60%. 2. Gender: males account for The vast majority, nearly 95% 3. Location of loss of contact: Yunnan port, followed by Bangkok and Guangxi ports 4. Resettlement locations: northern Myanmar, eastern Myanmar and Shan State (part of the Golden Triangle) 5. Reason for being defrauded: high salary Work is the main reason, accounting for nearly 70%, including but not limited to catering, filming, carrying goods, etc., followed by applying for loans, which are all related to money. There are also a small number of people who are defrauded due to reasons such as online dating and travel. 6. Knock on the blackboard: Thailand is the main source, destination and transit country for human trafficking in Southeast Asia. About 70,000 Chinese are sold from Thailand to Myanmar every year, which is equivalent to nearly 200 people being sold there every day. Here’s a message to the Chinese common people: “It’s easy to break a thief in the mountains, but it’s hard to break a thief in the heart.” Know where to stop, don’t be greedy, and hold on to the money in your hands! Don’t trust anyone!” (Archived link)

The video was also shared by another handle, @ZSRHERO, with the same caption.

The caption in these posts suggests that the incident pertains to human trafficking networks operating in Myanmar, targeting people through fraudulent schemes. It states that over 800 Chinese individuals were deceived and taken to Myanmar, most of them aged between 20 and 30. The majority of the victims are men. Most victims go missing near the Yunnan border (a region in China bordering Myanmar), followed by Bangkok and the Guangxi border areas.

Apart from this, we also came across a tweet by Lanjian Zhao, who is a former journalist according to his bio. Sharing the video, Zhao stated, “The most horrifying aspect of the Wang Xing incident involves staff at the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar. They reportedly told Wang Xing’s girlfriend to go to a small town in Myanmar to file a report. Hundreds of thousands of Chinese nationals have already fallen into the trap of Myawaddy, Myanmar. Is the embassy staff truly unaware of this? Over the course of 7-8 years, hundreds of thousands have gone missing, with many reportedly falling victim to organ harvesting or even being fed to crocodiles. The Chinese Embassy seemingly wanted Wang Xing’s girlfriend to become yet another victim in the statistics. Asking a young woman to go to Myanmar to file a report was tantamount to sending her straight into a trap.”

The journalist sharing the video, which allegedly shows a Chinese man being beaten by the Myanmar junta, raised concerns over the recent case of Chinese actor Wang Xing, who was rescued from the clutches of an online scam syndicate in Myanmar. According to Reuters, the 22 year old Chinese actor Wang Xing was lured to Thailand by a fake job offer. He was abducted and forced to work at an online scam center in Myanmar. He was later rescued by the Thai police, after his girlfriend raised issue on social media drawing significant attention.

Recent events in China have highlighted the significant concern of human trafficking of Chinese citizens in Myanmar, where they are forced to participate in online scam operations. These people are lured into fake job offers and then forced to perform forced labor in online scam operations. According to the BBC, the Chinese government is making significant efforts to eliminate human trafficking and online scam operations in Myanmar. Thousands of victims who were lured have been rescued. The United Nations has estimated that more than 120,000 people have been trafficked to these scam centers in Myanmar, while more than 100,000 people have been trafficked to Cambodia. These centers have earned billions of dollars for criminal networks and armed groups. The Chinese government is constantly pressuring the Myanmar military government and local armed groups to shut down these scam centers.
