Victim in Dewas murder case in Hindu
A claim is going viral on social media that a Hindu man named Sanjay Patidar in Dewas, Madhya Pradesh, eloped and married a girl named Gulnaz from the Muslim community. Both of them were living in a rented room. The room was locked for four days and when people broke the lock of the room, they found that Gulnaz was dead and her body was cut into pieces.
Fake news peddler handle Nazneen Akhter wrote, “This incident is from Dewas in Madhya Pradesh Hindu #संजय Patidar and Muslim girl Gulnaz had eloped and got married. They were living in a rented room. The room was shut for four days. When people broke the door and checked everything, they found pieces of Gulnaz’s body kept in the fridge ,, Now tell me who is the su/varo jihadi.” (Archived link)
Tanvir Rangrez asserted, “This is the result of girls who disobey their parents and take their own decisions ,,, Gulnaz married a boy named Sanjay Patidar ,, The result was that Gulnaz was cut into pieces and her pieces were found in the fridge The incident is being reported from Madhya Pradesh.” (Archived link)

In our fact-check research, we first conducted a keyword search using relevant terms. During this process, we found a report by Zee News. According to the report, the victim’s name is Pratibha, also known as Pinky Prajapati, and not Gulnaz.
Pinky was in a relationship with Sanjay Patidar, a resident of Ingoria in Ujjain, who was already married. He had been in a live-in relationship with Pinky for the last five years. For three years, they lived in a rented house in Ujjain. After that, they rented a house in Vrindavan Dham Colony in Dewas. Since January 2024, Pinky started pressuring Sanjay to marry her. Upset by this, Sanjay, along with his village friend Vinod Dave, strangled Pinky to death. They then tied her hands and legs, placed her body in a refrigerator, left it running, and fled.
The victim’s body had been locked in the refrigerator since June 2024. Sanjay would periodically visit the room to check on it. Another tenant, Balveer Singh Thakur, who was living in the two back rooms, needed the front room vacated by Sanjay. He contacted the property owner, after which the room’s lock was broken, and Pinky’s body was discovered in the refrigerator. The police were informed, and Sanjay Patidar was immediately arrested in Ujjain. Sanjay’s friend Vinod is currently in a Rajasthan jail for another crime.
Dewas SP Puneet Gehlot informed the media that Sanjay Patidar confessed to the crime during police interrogation. He revealed that the victim, Pratibha alias Pinky Prajapati, had been living with him in a live-in relationship for the past five years. For three years, they stayed in a house in Ujjain before moving to Dewas, where they lived together for two years. Pressured by her demands for marriage, Sanjay, with the help of his friend, strangled her and concealed the body in the refrigerator, which was kept running.
