A network of social media handles is circulating manipulated and AI-generated videos falsely portraying Indian journalists and officials as praising Pakistan or criticizing India’s diplomacy
Following the Pakistan’s mediation in US-Iran agreement, a well-coordinated campaign against India has emerged on social media, in which several Pakistani users like InsiderWB, Tactical Tribune, Zard Si Gana, and many others are attempting to sway the public perception surrounding the recent diplomatic development in West Asia conflict.
This campaign relies heavily on AI-generated and deepfake videos, in which the faces and voices of prominent India journalist (mainly Shiv Aroor and Palki Sharma), high rank Indian security agencies officials, and political figures, are used. The videos show these prominent figures, who naturally command public trust and credibility, praising Pakistan’s efforts for facilitating the negotiation between Iran and the United States, while simultaneously rebuking India’s diplomatic stance. The videos have been crafted in such a way with meticulously mimicking the Indian news studio set up, broadcasting style, and the format of official press briefings, that viewers who fail to immediately detect the manipulation may perceive them as entirely authentic.
The central narrative pushed through this campaign is that Pakistan has played a decisive diplomatic role in facilitating dialogue between Iran and the United States, whereas India was completely isolated during the West Asia crisis, and that its influence as a diplomatic actor in foreign policy has significantly declined. By presenting the fabricated statements of prominent Indian public figures through deepfake videos, this campaign attempts to cultivate the perception that Indian experts and officials publicly recognize Pakistani’s diplomatic success and acknowledges that India’s global image as a credible diplomatic player has significantly failed.
Background of Accounts Amplifying the Deepfake Campaign
Majority of the videos linked with this campaign have primarily emerged from an X handle named The Whistle Blower, which lists its location as South Asia. Many Pakistani handles refrains from explicitly using their location as Pakistani and strategically uses South Asia. This practice is adopted commonly to avoid revealing national source of the content, appear neutral to give the impression that the account presents regional perspective rather than presenting biased views of one nation, reduce suspicion and distrust among Indian audiences by listing vague location, and broadening their reach among nations like India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, etc.
The Whistle Blower goes by the username @InsiderWB on X platform, and an important pattern has been observed in its activity. Whenever major diplomatic developments unfolds globally, the accounts tends to become active and frequently shares deepfake or manipulated videos featuring Indian journalists, officials, or political figures with a clear objective to amplify narratives critical of India and influence online discourse.
Another prominent handle involved in spreading similar content is Zard si Gana, which appears to originate from Pakistan. The account operates on X under the username @ZardSi and have actively amplifying manipulated videos related to Indian political and diplomatic developments. Beyond the current campaign, this account has consistently remained active in promoting anti-India narratives during periods of sensitive domestic crisis, including the unrest in Manipur.
There is another similar account, @ZardanSi, which is most likely operated by the same entity behind Zard si Gana. An analysis of this account suggests that its misleading and deepfake video contents appears to be in line with the content shared by @ZardSi.
In addition to these accounts, @TacticalTribun, is another propaganda handle from Pakistan, that has listed its location as South Asia. For a long period of time, this account has displayed a very disturbing pattern in circulating misleading or false information related to India. Its content primarily focuses on topics involving Indian security forces, India’s international relations, and various domestic issues, such as Kashmir. Over time, Tactical Tribune has shared several unverified claims and fake narratives on these subjects, and has also, at times, attempted to promote communal propaganda concerning India.
Alongside these accounts, several other handles such as @Baba_Thoka, @BlueMist911, @IntelPK, @ArmedUpdated1947, and many more, are playing an active role in amplifying anti-India rhetoric in online discourse. Operating from Pakistan and functioning as a part of coordinated network, these handles exhibit a similar pattern of regularly disseminating politically and controversially charged fake narratives, thereby exerting a psychological influence on online discourse.
A key feature of this campaign is its structured amplification pattern. In most of the observed cases, the manipulated videos are first posted by @InsiderWB (The Whistle Blower), after which they are rapidly shared by and amplified by a wider network of accounts, including @ZardSi, @TacticalTribun, and others.
