Unveiling the Truth: Not public but SP leader assaults husband of BJP leader in Uttar Pradesh

On May 10, 2023, a Twitter handle by the name of Dr Nimo Yadav posted a video that quickly gained traction. The video depicted a disturbing scene, showing several men assaulting an individual. Moreover, alongside the video, Nimo Yadav made a contentious claim, alleging that these acts of violence were directed at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders in Uttar Pradesh. According to the tweet, the assault was an expression of public anger towards the alleged negligence of BJP Leaders in their constituencies, focusing solely on Hindu-Muslim matters while ignoring other pressing issues.

Another Twitter user by the name of Sheikh expressed their satisfaction, making a rather provocative statement while quoting Nimo Yadav’s tweet. Sheikh’s tweet boldly proclaimed that the transformation of the entire country would be possible only when such incidents—depicted in the video—occur on a larger scale in the whole of UP.

Another Twitter user by the name of Er Jodhpuri JAT expressed a sense of satisfaction while quoting Nimo Yadav’s tweet. Er Jodhpuri JAT appeared to derive a peculiar pleasure from witnessing the disturbing scene captured in the video.

During our investigation, we conducted a reverse search on the video shared by Nimo Yadav. To our astonishment, our search led us to a video on Youtube. This video featured the same visuals as the viral video. However, this particular video, uploaded on May 10, 2023, on Navbharat Times’ YouTube channel, painted a drastically different reality.

As per the report provided by Navbharat Times, it was revealed that the incident captured in the video portrayed an alarming scene where Samajwadi Party MLA Rakesh Pratap Singh and his supporters were seen engaged in a violent altercation with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Deepak Singh in Amethi. The altercation erupted as a result of a heated argument between the two political figures, ultimately resulting in Deepak Singh being subjected to physical assault by SP MLA Rakesh Singh and his supporters.

Furthermore, taking a cue from the above Youtube video, we decided to delve deeper by conducting keyword research with the words “SP MLA Rakesh Singh beats BJP leader in Amethi.” Our efforts led us to a significant discovery—a report published by India Today on May 10, 2023. Interestingly, this report featured the same video that had been shared by Nimo Yadav. However, the details provided in the India Today report shed further light on the incident. The report confirms the involvement of Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Rakesh Pratap Singh.

According to the India Today report, it was revealed that Rakesh Pratap Singh, the SP MLA, resorted to physical violence against Deepak Singh, the husband of Rashmi Singh, a BJP candidate in the municipal elections. This disturbing incident took place within the confines of a police station in Amethi district, Uttar Pradesh.

Apart from this, we came across another report published by Latestly on May 10, 2023. Remarkably, this report echoed the same narrative that had emerged from our previous sources. It reiterated the fact that SP MLA Rakesh Pratap Singh was indeed the perpetrator behind the assault on the husband of a BJP leader in Amethi.

So, all these points prove that the claim made by Nimo Yadav, suggesting that a BJP representative was subjected to public thrashing is false. Instead, It was Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Rakesh Pratap Singh and his supporters who resorted to an act of violence. Deepak Singh, the husband of Rashmi Singh, a BJP municipal election candidate, became the unfortunate victim of this assault, which took place inside the Gauriganj Kotwali Police station in Amethi district.
