Unveiling the Truth: MORTH Drafted Requirements for air-conditioning systems in the cabins of trucks almost 6 years before Rahul Gandhi’s Truck ride

In a momentous announcement on July 6, 2023, Nitin Gadkari, the Minister of Road Transport and Highways in India, unveiled a pioneering decision that promises to reshape the trucking industry. Through a tweet, Gadkari revealed the approval of a draft notification mandating the installation of air-conditioning systems in the cabins of trucks falling under the N2 and N3 categories. This landmark move not only recognizes the indispensable role played by truck drivers in ensuring road safety but also signifies a monumental leap forward in providing them with comfortable working conditions, ultimately addressing the persistent issue of driver fatigue.

However, in a surprising turn of events, moments after Nitin Gadkari, the Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India, tweeted about the landmark decision to mandate air-conditioning systems in truck cabins, a wave of credit for this development washed over Rahul Gandhi. This unexpected twist in the narrative stems from a recent incident where Rahul Gandhi had the opportunity to travel alongside a truck driver in his truck.

One Congress party member named Vimal, responding to Gadkari’s tweet, took the opportunity to express gratitude to Rahul Gandhi, attributing the decision to his understanding of the truck drivers’ pain. In a political jab, the member also highlighted the trend of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) renaming schemes implemented by the Congress, suggesting that now they were attempting to appropriate Rahul Gandhi’s ideas as their own. The remark concluded by hailing Rahul Gandhi as a healer and expressing pride in his role as a unifying figure for India.

Furthermore, in yet another intriguing response to Nitin Gadkari’s tweet, a Congress party member named Ruchira Chaturvedi emphasized the transformation in the conditions of truck drivers, attributing it to Rahul Gandhi’s efforts in raising their concerns. With a touch of irony, the member referred to Rahul Gandhi as a “Disqualified MP,” highlighting the unexpected impact his actions have had on the lives of these drivers.

Apart from this, another congress party member named Dr Sumit Dubey while responding to Nitin Gadkari’s tweet, expressed gratitude to Rahul Gandhi for his pivotal role in raising the prime concern of Indian truck drivers. Dr. Dubey emphasized that Rahul Gandhi went beyond mere vocal support and personally experienced the discomfort faced by truck drivers through his travels.

So, is it true that it was Rahul Gandhi who raised the issue of truck drivers discomfort and gave the idea to make the installation of air conditioning systems mandatory in the cabins of trucks? Let’s Fact Check.

Fact Check

During our investigation, one crucial aspect we explored was the date when Rahul Gandhi embarked on his journey alongside a truck driver. As we delved deeper into the matter, we stumbled upon an enlightening report published by NDTV on May 23, 2023. According to this report, Rahul Gandhi, the leader, was en route to Shimla to spend quality time with his mother, who happened to be visiting the Himachal Pradesh capital. On this fortuitous journey, fate intervened when Rahul Gandhi encountered a group of truck drivers at a dhaba in Sonipat, Haryana and decided to hitch a ride with one of the truck drivers, on May 22, 2023.

Continuing our investigation, we uncovered yet another intriguing report, this time published by India Today on June 13, 2023, shedding light on yet another truck ride taken by Rahul Gandhi. According to this report, during his recent visit to the United States, Rahul Gandhi travelled from Washington DC to New York by truck and asked the driver about his experiences of working in the US and how it is different than driving a truck in India.

However, in a surprising twist to the story of Rahul Gandhi’s truck ride from Washington DC to New York, it was later revealed and Fact Checked by us that the truck driver Taljinder Singh, accompanying him held a significant position within the Indian Overseas Congress (IOC) in America. The IOC actively promotes the ideals and values of the Congress party in the United States and other foreign countries.

So, it was these truck rides taken by Rahul Gandhi in May and June 2023 which have ignited a wave of credit and recognition from Congress supporters, who attribute the government’s decision to mandate the installation of air conditioning systems in cabins of trucks to Rahul Gandhi’s advocacy for truck drivers’ discomfort. This sentiment among Congress supporters highlights their belief that it was Rahul Gandhi’s actions and experiences during these truck rides that brought the issue to the forefront and spurred the government into action.

However, since the decisions related to the transport are taken by ministry of road transport and highways. we decided to go through the official site of MORTH. During our exploration of the official website of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH), we stumbled upon a significant report published on November 27, 2017. This report outlined the requirements for truck cabin ventilation systems for vehicles falling under the N2 and N3 categories, primarily encompassing trucks. The Ministry, in its publication, put forth suggestions for the installation of air conditioning (AC), heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, or ventilation systems in these truck cabins.

These points paint a clear picture of the timeline and sequence of events surrounding the approval for the installation of air-conditioning systems in the cabins of trucks falling under the N2 and N3 categories in India. While the announcement by Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, on July 6, 2023, brought this development to the forefront, it is crucial to acknowledge that the requirements and suggestions for such systems were drafted by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on November 27, 2017, following the Automotive Industry Standard.

Hence, the claims made by Congress supporters that the idea and suggestion for the installation of air-conditioning systems in truck cabins were first presented by Rahul Gandhi are entirely misleading.
