UGC Protest Video from Bihar Misleadingly Shared as Anti-Modi Protest Over Israel-Iran Tensions

A video is going viral on social media showing people aggressively burning an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The clip is being shared with the claim that thousands of Indians are protesting against PM Modi over the normalization of ties with Israel and the rising tensions with Iran, and that protesters are raising slogans like ”make Israel give us oil.”

Sharing the video, the handle Dr Maira Siddiqui wrote, ”Thousands of people are protesting against Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the government’s stance on Israel and the growing tensions with Iran. In several demonstrations, protesters have burned his photos and raised slogans urging him to “Make Israel give us oil.”

Another handle BBX wrote, ”Thousands of Indians are protesting against Prime Minister Narendra Modi over normalization with Israel and creating tensions with Iran. Protesters burned his photos and told him: Make Israel give us oil.”

The same claim was also made by other handles such as @rmky6607, TMT, and M.X.

In our fact‑check research, we extracted key frames from the video and conducted a reverse image search. During this, we found that the same video was posted on the NewZIndia 24 YouTube channel on January 29, 2026, with the caption, “Violent protest against UGC bill in Arrah, Bihar.”

According to the caption, the video shows people protesting and shows that the burnt effigy of PM Modi is from Arrah, Bihar, and shows a protest against the UGC bill.

The same video was also posted on an X handle named Chaprazila on January 28, 2026. According to the post, the clip is from Arrah in Bihar and shows members of the Savarna community demanding the withdrawal of the University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines. (Archive Link)
