In recent events, Pakistani social media users posted a video featuring a gathering of armed individuals, alleging that rebel forces targeted Indian army commandos, resulting in an attack that claimed the lives of 37 armed commandos.

Our inquiry commenced with a reverse image search of the viral video, ultimately leading us to a YouTube video from the news channel East Mojo. In a concise one-minute report, East Mojo detailed an intense clash that erupted between two groups of armed individuals in the Kadangband area and the Koutruk hills, at approximately 2 pm in Manipur.

East Mojo further reported, ‘At least two persons were killed, and three others were injured during a fresh gunfight between armed miscreants in the bordering area of Kangpokpi and Imphal West district on Tuesday, according to the police.

The bodies of the deceased were identified as Meishnam Khaba Meitei (29) of Sagoltongba Mamang Leikai and Nongthombam Michel Singh (32) of Konung Leikai, palace compound, and were later deposited at the RIMS mortuary.

The three individuals who sustained injuries were swiftly taken to RIMS in Imphal for immediate medical attention and are reported to be in stable condition.’

The Manipur police responded to the incident and posted on Twitter, stating, “On 30.01.2024, 2(two) individuals were killed in a firing incident between armed miscreants at bordering area of Kangpokpi and Imphal West district.

Moreover, The Times of India has covered the incident, reporting, ‘Violence resurfaced in the Imphal valley following a brief period of calm, as unidentified gunmen fatally shot two individuals and critically injured three others in an afternoon attack on a village along the Kangpokpi-Imphal West district border in Manipur. The deceased individuals were identified as N Michael (33) and M Khaba (23), while the injured person has been transported to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences hospital in Imphal. Two individuals attacked during the shooting are currently missing, according to a security official.

To sum up, the video circulated by Pakistani social media users carries a false claim. While it is accurate that the video originates from Manipur, it actually depicts a clash between two armed groups rather than involving the Indian army. The clash resulted in the unfortunate death of two individuals.
