Referring to the first tribal President Draupadi Murmu’s address on the eve of the 75th anniversary of Independence Day, Congress party member Manickam Tagore, current member of parliament representing Vridhunagar, Tamil Nadu, claimed in a tweet on August 14 that a SC boy in Uttar Pradesh died after being beaten by a teacher for drinking water from his pot.

Fact Check

According to the Indian Express and WION report, the incident occurred in Congress ruled state Rajasthan and not Uttar Pradesh, as we discovered throughout our investigation. After being allegedly physically abused by his teacher for drinking water from his pot, a 9-year-old Dalit boy from Rajasthan’s Jalore district studying at a private school in Surana village passed away on Saturday at Ahemdabad hospital.

Chail Singh, 40, was detained by the police and has been charged with murder and a violation of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

He said that a complaint had been filed under the SC/ST Act and the Murder Act, leading to the arrest of the accused instructor. Additionally, the deceased’s relatives will receive help in the sum of Rs. 5 lakh.
