Fact Check

As the claim seems to be suspicious, we conducted research. With the help of keyword search ‘The 92nd edition of Mann Ki Baat‘ in YouTube, we came across a video in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing the nation explained how various parts of India are helping to fight the battle against malnutrition.

In Mann Ki Baat, PM Modi discussed numerous initiatives implemented around the nation to reduce malnutrition. In which he further talked about one such initiative of Madhya Pradesh’s Datia. In the video, starting at 12 minutes and 20 seconds, Prime Minister Narendra Modi applauded the “Mera Baccha Abhiyan” programme in the Datia area to fight malnutrition. Can you believe singing, music, and bhajans can also be used to alleviate malnutrition, he said. It was effectively used in the “Mera Baccha Abhiyan” in the Madhya Pradesh district of Datia.

Notably, this approach has reduced malnutrition and increased the number of children attending Anganwadis. He said that the district organized bhajan-kirtan occasions as part of the campaign, in which nutrition gurus were also invited. Matka Programme event was also organized, in which women donated wistful of grain in Anganwadi centres, which is used to cook a meal on Saturday.

From 12 min 20 sec onwards

PM Modi was applauding the idea behind the bhajan-kirtan held as part of the “Mera Baccha Abhiyan” effort to end malnutrition. Malnutrition had successfully decreased as a result of this approach. Therefore, The Wire’s assertion is false with the intend to mislead people.
