The caste atrocities are a thing of the past. We get to hear the news of casteism in our day-to-day lives, and we frame the idea again that it’s another upper caste and lower caste conflict. However, casteism is not a black-and-white phenomenon like the mainstream media portrays it. Besides, there are several propaganda portals that thrive on caste conflict.
On February 8, 2022, Dalit Times, a propaganda portal claiming to be Dalit rights activists, tweeted a media graphic stating, “Dalit’s daughter married under police protection; casteists threaten consequences.”
Moreover, Dalit Times made no mention of the caste group that threatened the Dalit family. However, a regional media from south, Telangana Today, covered this story stating that “Dalit family gets police protection after threats from upper castes in UP.”
Since Dalit Time did not mention the community that threatened the Dalit Family, it raises suspicion because Dalit Time is very quick to blame people from the upper caste for everything that goes wrong in the country, even when India lost a World Cup match, they specifically blamed Brahmin players. So it’s strange that they didn’t mention any caste names.

Fact Check
In the beginning of our research, we decided to go through other media reports. Further, we used the keyword search “Dalit Threatened in Sambhal” in Hindi and English. And found several media reports concluding a casteism angle, but very few mentioned the caste.
However, according to a report by Newstrack, the Dalit family is threatened by the village pradhan and members of the Yadav community.
Besides that, a Dalit activist named Suraj Kumar Bauddh also tweeted a video of a victim blaming the Yadav community. Also, he concluded that Bahujan community needed to reform their own community first.
According to the National Commission of backward classes, Yadavs come under other Backward Classes, so, they are not upper castes as claimed by propaganda portal.
Hence, after analyzing all the aspects, it’s clear that this caste conflict has nothing to do with the upper and lower caste groups. Moreover, casteism from other classes, such as OBCs against SCs, goes unnoticed because it doesn’t appeal to mainstream media narratives.
Furthermore, Sambhal Police rejected the media claim, stating that according to their investigation, no one has threatened the Dalit family and the wedding took place under police protection.
