SpaceX Starship Launch 2023 Video Falsely Shared as Iran’s Al-Fateh Missile Launch

Amid the Israel-Iran conflict, several Indian handles are sharing old and misleading videos to shape the narrative that Iran has the upper hand in this conflict. One such video is going viral online which shows a rocket launch. The video is being shared with the claim that Iran has launched the Al-Fateh missile which is capable of dodging the Iron Dome. This is why Israel is intimidated by Iran.

Sharing the video, the handle Karishma Aziz wrote, “Iran launched Al-Fateh missile which is capable of dodging Iron Dome.” (archived link)

Another handle Saba Khan stated, “This Iranian missile is named Al-Fateh, which can even evade the Iron Dome. Iran is shaking even the superpowers, that’s why Trump and Netanyahu are terrified of Iran.” (archived link)

Fact check

In our fact check research, we took keyframes from the viral video and ran a reverse image search. During this, we found an X post from the handle Massimo dated November 19, 2023, where the same video was shared with the caption, ‘SpaceX Star base is in Boca Chica, Texas, very close to the Mexican border. This is what Starship IFT-2 looks like from Faro Baghdad in Tamaulipas, Mexico, a few kilometers away from Star base.’ (archived link)

According to the caption of the post, the video shows Starship IFT-2 (Integrated Flight Test 2) launched by SpaceX. The launch took place from Boca Chica, Texas. The video was taken from Mexico, where the rocket launch was visible.

This same video was also posted by a handle called Jonah C on November 18, 2023, with a caption suggesting that the launched Starship was visible from Mexico. (archived link)
