On September 24, 2022, the National President of the Indian Youth Congress Srinivas BV mocked PM Modi by posting a video with the caption “Modi Ji’s huge rally in Himachal! There was a claim of 1 lakh youths gathering at the rally. Seeing the situation, Modi did not reach Mandi..!”

Replying to Srinivas BV tweet Congress MLC from U.P. Deepak Singh said “PM Modi has set a target of positioning 1 lakh chairs, not mobilizing 1 lakh youths. Youths are doing padayatra with Rahul Ji.”

Fact Check

Our team conducted research to check the veracity of the claim made by the Congress leader as it seemed to be suspicious. With the help of the Invid Weverify tool we extracted the keyframe of the video shared by the Congress leader. Through reverse image search of the extracted image it led us to the search result that video is of PM Modi’s scheduled program on September 24, 2022, at Paddal Maidan, Mandi, Himachal.

In our research we checked the viral video shared by Shrinivas in which we could hear PM Modi addressing people in the background. PM Modi is heard saying “मौसम के कारण रुकावटें आईं लेकिन हिमाचल का प्यार, हिमाचल का आशीर्वाद, हिमाचल के प्रति मेरा लगाव उसमें” we took this sentence as reference point for our research. We found a 24 min and 40 sec DD News video of PM Modi’s virtual rally on YouTube with keyword search Youth Vijay Sankalp Rally Mandi, Himachal Pradesh. The Prime Minister started his speech by expressing repentance for missing the Mandi rally by saying that “I was meant to go to the rally, but the inclement weather prevents me from going. I will undoubtedly visit in the upcoming days and will meet the locals.” Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his gratitude to the youngsters for attending the event despite the inclement weather and rain. Now, the youth power of the country will fulfill the resolve of making India a developed nation in the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Kaal’, PM Modi added.

After listening to the full video, we discovered a reference point being mentioned at 22 minutes and 54 seconds, virtually as the speech’s conclusion. In the DD News footage, we can view the rally from several different perspectives at once. People can be seen using chair shields to protect themselves from the downpour while listening to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address.

Further in our research we found a media report from the local newspaper, Savera News, which covered the ground report of the rally. Newspaper particularly mentioned that youths listened to Modi’s virtual address despite heavy rain.

Lastly in our research we came across ‘Yuva Vijay Sankalp rally’ Facebook post of Himachal’s CM Jairam Thakur and BJP State President Suresh Kashyap. In which CM said despite weather condition rally was successful with large number of youths participating in it. A large crowd be seen in the images who came to listen to PM Modi’s speech in the rally.

Thus, the aforementioned facts reveal that the claims made by Congress leader Srinivas BV are false with an intention to deceive people. Despite the rain and terrible weather, more than hundreds of youngsters joined PM Modi’s rally, which subsequently became a virtual event as the weather prevented PM Modi from traveling from Delhi to Mandi.
