Recent events reported the deaths of three Maulanas in Uttar Pradesh and one in Jharkhand. However, many social media users, while sharing this incident, attributed a communal angle to it. Similarly, the death of a middle aged man in West Bengal was also linked to a communal dispute.

  1. There is no communal angle in the murder of Imam in Shamli

While sharing the report of the murder of Imam Fazlur Rehman in Shamli, Uttar Pradesh, Mohammad Mushtaqim wrote, “Imam Fazlur Rehman of the mosque was beheaded in Shamli, UP. His head was found 500 meters away from the torso. Maulana shot dead in Moradabad, body found in ruins. Muslims are killed every day in the country! @RubikaLiyaquat ji, ask Yogi ji when will bulldozers be run on the houses of the killers?” (Archived link)

Fact: Our fact-check research found that Imam Fazlur Rehman was murdered by his son Junaid (20), who beheaded his father with a shovel. After this, he cut his father’s neck and separated it from the torso. He took off his father’s clothes, wrapped the head in them, and threw it in a garden about 500 meters away from the incident site. The body was later found by the Jhinjhana police after receiving the information.

Fact: The claim that Imam Akram was shot dead is false. During the investigation, the police recovered a suicide note written by Imam Akram before his death. WE News English

Fact: The claim that Azgar Molla was beaten by Hindu extremists turned out to be false. It was found that there had been an increase in theft incidents in Bhangar over the past few days, leading the local people to believe that Azgar Molla was a thief, and they beat him to death.
