Fact Check

At the beginning of our fact-check research, we observed that the viral post contains two images — in one, a supposed priest is seen with a woman, and the other is a picture of a temple. We performed a reverse image search of both images and found that the photo of the priest with the woman is available on social media platforms like Pinterest and Instagram.

We noticed that in both posts—from Pinterest and Instagram—the image of the priest with the woman is different. However, despite extensive searching on Google about this person, we did not find any credible reports. This led us to suspect that the image might have been digitally morphed.

In the next step of our research, we performed a reverse image search of the temple shown in the viral post and found the same image on the Just Dial website. The image contains the exact same frame as seen in the viral post, including two young men on a scooty, a woman, and a truck.

According to the information found on Just Dial, this image is of ‘Shree Gaondevi Mandir’, which is located on Manpada Road in Dombivli. We also found that this image has been available on the website for the past 5 years.

We found a phone number listed in the contact information for this temple on the Just Dial website. We tried to contact this number, but it was unavailable. We then checked Google Maps and found that there are several residential and commercial establishments around ‘Shree Gaondevi Mandir’ in Dombivli. Among these, we contacted Aditya Travels. The owner of the travel agency, Aditya, told us that no such incident has taken place involving this temple—neither has the temple priest been beaten up, nor has he ever been caught in a hotel.

After that, we contacted Assistant Police Commissioner (ACP) Suhas Hemade of the Dombivli Division area in Thane district. He informed us that the post is completely fake. No one has assaulted the priest of Shree Gaondevi Mandir.

In conclusion, the viral post claiming that a temple priest was using donation money to indulge in debauchery at OYO hotel is completely fake. The image of the priest with a woman, which is being shared with the post, also appears to be digitally morphed. Additionally, the temple shown in the post is Dombivli’s Shree Gaondevi Mandir, and no such incident has ever occurred there.
