The seventh and final phase of Lok Sabha elections is going to be held on June 1, 2024. Meanwhile, a video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally is going viral on X (formerly Twitter). It is being claimed with this video that in this rally speech, PM Modi has called one of the Panch Pyaras of the tenth Guru of Sikhs, Guru Gobind Singh, as his uncle.

Congress supporter Ravindra Kapoor posted the video on X and wrote, “The fear of losing the upcoming Lok Sabha elections has taken a toll on Narendra Modi’s “mental health”. Narendra Modi has claimed that one of Guru Gobind Singh’s ‘Panch Pyare’ was his uncle.”

Jaspinder Kaur wrote, “Modi’s direct attack on Sikhism In a speech in Patiala, Modi falsely and insultingly claimed that one of the five beloveds of Guru Gobind Singh Ji was his uncle. Yesterday, Modi had said that he was not born, but directly sent to earth by God. Seeing his defeat, this man has gone mad.”

Congress leader Anuma Acharya wrote, “Manoj Jha ji has started worrying about the overall health of the PM. I have also been saying for three years that such a provision should be inserted in the constitution that there should be an option to check the unbalanced behaviour of the top leadership, because it is clearly written in the constitution that no mad or bankrupt person is eligible for the post of Prime Minister of India. That is why behavioral analysis and mental health checkup should be done every year!”

Congress leader Vikas Bansal wrote, “While speaking all sorts of nonsense in election rallies, Modi teased Sikhs in Patiala! He called one of the Panch Pyaras of Guru Govind Singh his uncle; Sikh community is angry over the false claim Modi said, “Forget about the Prime Minister, I have a blood relation with you…among the Panch Pyare (beating his chest) before Guru Gobind Singh, I too had an uncle (he beats his chest)!”

Aam Aadmi Party supporter Neer Kaur wrote, “Modi’s statement insulting Sikhism, one of the five beloveds of Guru Gobind Singh was his uncle.”

Moreover, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi has also shared this video.

Aam Aadmi Party supporter Jitendra Singh wrote, “Modi’s direct attack on Sikhism In a speech in Patiala, Modi made the false and defamatory claim that one of the five beloveds of Guru Gobind Singh was his uncle.”

Congress leader SK Sharma wrote, “Modi said, “Forget about the Prime Minister, I have a blood relation with you…among the Panch Pyare (beating his chest) who were there before Guru Gobind Singh, I too had an uncle (he beats his chest)!”

Fact Check

In our fact check research, we did a Google search using the relevant keywords and found a report published on Amar Ujala on May 23. According to this report, PM Modi raised several issues related to Sikhs in his address. Modi said that I have a blood relation with Punjab. One of the first five beloveds of Guru Gobind Singh was from Dwarka.

In this report, we also found that this video of PM Modi is of his rally speech in Patiala, Punjab. After this we got the video of this rally on PM’s YouTube channel. In this video, at 36:42 minutes the PM said, “Friends, forget about the Prime Minister, I have a blood relation with you. First Panch Pyare of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. My Panch Pyare of Dwarka was also among them, I have blood relation with you.”

PM Modi further said that the biggest hospital in Jamnagar is named after Guru Gobind Singh Ji. Dwarka is situated in Jamnagar district. He told the people that if they ever get time, they should definitely visit Lakhpat. Guru Nanak Dev Ji rested there. That Gurudwara was damaged in the earthquake. I was CM then. I said that I also want to build a similar Gurudwara. To build this, I traveled across the country and brought soil. I brought the artisans who built the Gurudwara. Today, in Lakhpat village in the desert of Kutch, I have built the same Gurudwara as it was before. There is no vote there. Modi bows to the gurus, that’s why he did this. Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas is the identity of BJP and NDA.

In our further research, we searched on Google to know about ‘Panch Pyaras’ and we found a report published on NDTV and Punjab Kesari. According to these reports, the tenth Sikh Guru Gobind Singh Ji had established the Khalsa sect on the day of Baisakhi in 1699 and five brave men of the Khalsa sect, who earlier belonged to different castes, were made Sikhs by giving them the title of ‘Singh’ and along with this he was also given the title of brother (bhai). Those ‘Panch Pyaras’ are known as Bhai Daya Singh, Bhai Dharam Singh, Bhai Himmat Singh, Bhai Mohkam Singh and Bhai Saheb Singh. During Nagar Kirtan, these Panch Pyaras are given a place in front of the palanquin of Guru Granth Sahib.

According to the report, Bhai Mohkam Singh was born in 1663 in Dwarka, Gujarat. His father’s name was Shri Tirath Chand. He came to Sri Anandpur Sahib in 1685 and then settled here. Bhai Saheb was continuously engaged in service work. He had a special fondness for the art of war, hence he emerged as a great warrior. Bhai Mohkam Singh enthusiastically participated in all the battles fought under the leadership of Dashmesh Pita and showed feats of bravery.

Conclusion: PM Narendra Modi did not call one of the Panch Pyaras his uncle. PM said one of the Panch Pyaras was from Dwarka, Gujarat. He did not use the word uncle anywhere. The video has been made viral with a misleading claim with the intention of provoking the Sikh community.
