Pakistani Users Spread Misleading Claim Blaming Indian Army for Reasi Terror Attack

On June 9, a bus carrying Hindu pilgrims was attacked by terrorists, killing 09 people and injuring 41 others. The attack targeted a 53-seater bus going to the Vaishno Devi temple in Katra. The terrorists opened fire on the bus, causing it to fall into a deep gorge near Teryath village in Reasi. The bus was carrying pilgrims from Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi.

TRF, a front of Pakistan’s terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba, took credit for this cowardly attack. Meanwhile, in a major crackdown, Jammu Police has detained 50 people in connection with the attack. The police have also released four sketches of the terrorists and announced a reward of Rs 20 lakh. Amidst all this, a CCTV footage is being shared on X (formerly Twitter), in which a jeep is seen following the attacked bus. Pakistani users are sharing this CCTV footage with the claim that the chasing jeep was an Indian Army gypsy who attacked the bus carrying the pilgrims.

Pakistan based handle PSYWAR Bureau wrote, “Shocking new camera footage has surfaced, reveaIing that the recent Reasi attack was an ins!de job orchestrated by the lnd!an Army. Upon reaching the Iocation of the inc!dent, the army vehicIe overtakes the bus, and lnd!an Army soId!ers open f!re on it. This reveIation suggests that the attack was carried out to bIame Pakistan and faciIitate the gen0cide of Kashm!ri MusI!ms.” (Archived link)

Fact Check

In our fact check research, we spotted the logo of Jammu Links News on the top right corner of the CCTV footage. On YouTube channel of Jammu Links we found that the CCTV footage was posted 2 days ago.

The description below the video reads, “CCTV captures the bus in Reasi moments before the attack. The CCTV shows a jeep chasing the bus full of pilgrims moments before the attack.” Nowhere is it mentioned that the jeep belonged to the Indian Army.

Furthermore, we conducted a keyword search on Google but did not find any credible media reports supporting the claim made by several Pakistani users. If the claim were true, all credible media sources would have reported this significant revelation. All this suggest that the jeep following the bus was a normal civilian jeep and has nothing to do with the Indian Army.

Conclusion: The CCTV footage showing a jeep following the bus that was attacked in Reasi is going viral with the claim that the jeep belonged to the Indian Army and they were involved in the attack. This claim is misleading.
