On Twitter, a Pakistani allegedly turned South Asian Human Rights Watch (SAHRW) account that is undeniably famous for tarnishing India’s image globally posted a disturbing video where a few men can be seen making youth drink water from shoes. SAHRW claimed that Indian Dalits continue to face discrimination and violence at an alarming rate. There is no effective measure to protect rights and prevent violence against Dalits. They are always subjected to atrocities due to their caste. So far, this post has received over 16,000 views.
Pakistani Army former Lt. General Shafaat Shah while sharing this video states that this is the shining India under Modi where Dalits are subjected to atrocities.
Another Anti-Hindu account Jas Oberoi captioned the video that this is the state of Dalits in India.
Apart from this, another troll Twitter handle, Monsieur Larkin, posted this video targeting Hindusim. The account mentioned that in Hinduism this is the punishment that the lower caste face from the upper caste.
Is there any caste angle in this video as claimed or is it more than what meets our eyes? Let’s fact-check!

We started our research with a reverse image search of the extracted thumbnail of the video. Through thumbnail, we were able to find a three-year-old report published by Dainik Bhaskar. According to Bhaskar, this incident happened in the year 2020 in Sumerpur Pali district, Rajasthan. The victim was forced to drink water from shoes as a punishment by Panchayat for having an affair with a married woman.
Further, we found a report by News18 published in June 2020, the report mentions that Sumerpur police station in-charge Ravindra Singh said that the matter is of a one-sided love story where the victim was unmarried and he used to call a married woman over the phone frequently. Both belong to the same caste. He also mentioned that 5 people have been arrested in this incident.
As the incident is from Rajasthan, we tried to search for a statement from the police regarding the matter. Through the relevant keyword search on the official Twitter account of Rajasthan Police, we found a tweet from August 2022, where Rajasthan Police fact-checked this incident, they mentioned that this video is two-year-old and is being circulated with a false caste angle. There is no caste angle in this incident as both groups belong to the same community. All accused in the case were arrested.
Hence, with the above research and statement of the police, it is clear that there is no Upper caste and Dalit angle in this case. The victim was not targeted due to his caste as both the involved parties belonged to the same community. This video was circulated in the past with misleading caste claims after which Rajasthan police fact-checked it.
Even after Police clarification last year, Pakistani-origin accounts without research keep targeting India to degrade its image on a global level.
