Old Video shared With False Claim of Sikh Man Lynched by Hindus in Uttar Pradesh

A video circulating on X shows two men brutally beating another man, even as the police intervene. The video is being shared with the claim that a Sikh man was lynched by more than 50 Hindus in Uttar Pradesh. Additionally, the audio in the video, featuring a man speaking Punjabi, alleges that under the Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh, a Sikh man is being brutally attacked by a Hindu mob chanting Jai Shri Ram.

The handle Jaspinder Kaur Udhoke sharing the video claimed, “When will the BJP goons who killed an innocent Sikh in UP be hanged?”

Navpreet Kaur wrote, “One Sikh Boy was Killed By 50+ Hindu Baiye in UP Bimaru Pardesh. Now no lindo will speak against it. That’s why keeping Shastars is important.”

Harjeet Singh asserted, “Hundred’s of Hindu terrorists get together to publicly lynch and murder another Sikh youth in the Hindi capital of India. Shameless people and shameless states whose end is very near.”

In our fact check research, we extracted key frames from the video and ran a reverse image search. This search led us to an India Today report dated October 5, 2019, where we spotted the same key frames. The report revealed that the video is old and originates from Bihar. According to the report, the incident occurred in the Shivaji Chowk area of Bhabua, Bihar, where the son of a ward councilor, who had shot a man, was brutally beaten by locals in the presence of the police.

According to another report by Jagran, Shahid Rain, the son of ward councilor Badruddin Rain, had shot Madhav Singh, alias Madho, a resident of Sikthi village in Bhabua, due to an internal conflict. Singh died while undergoing treatment in Kaimur district hospital.

As soon as the news of the shooting was received, the angry locals thrashed the accused, who was later admitted to Kaimur Sadar Hospital for treatment. Following the news of the victim’s death in the hospital, the angry mob barged into the hospital and tried to kill the accused. During this, the mob broke the emergency gate of the hospital and vandalized the room in which the accused was being treated and pelted stones at the windows.

Kaimur SP appealed to the people not to take law in their hands and maintain peace. However, the angry mob continued to create ruckus, compelling the police to resort to lathi charge to control the situation.

Two FIRs were lodged in connection with the case – one by the Bhabua police station and the other by the family members of the deceased.

These media reports confirm that the video is from an incident that took place in Bihar in 2019, where the son of a Bhabua ward councillor was beaten up by a crowd after he shot a man, who later died during treatment. Hence, the claim that the video shows a Sikh man being beaten up and killed by a Hindu mob in Uttar Pradesh is false. Also, the audio in the viral video is fabricated.
