Not Social Workers but Christian Missionaries were beaten by Villagers for Conversion Activities

On October 6, 2023, a Twitter account named “Crime Reports India” shared a video that has caught the attention of many. Crime Reports India purport to be an organization dedicated to covering reports on crimes committed against minorities in India. In this video, we witness a rather unsettling scene: an elderly woman and a man are seen slapping another man and some women right in the middle of a busy road, surrounded by onlookers. However, what makes this incident even more intriguing is the claim made by Crime Reports India in their tweet. They suggest that the individuals being subjected to this act of violence are Christian social workers, and they are allegedly being assaulted by Hindu villagers.

So, is it true that the people in the video who are being beaten were Christian social workers? Let’s Fact Check.

During our investigation, our first step was to conduct a reverse video search of the viral video initially shared by Crime Reports India to know its reality. During this, we stumbled upon a YouTube video posted on October 5, 2023, by official Youtube channel of Rashtratej Marathi News, and to our astonishment, it contained the exact same visuals as the video shared by Crime Reports India.

However, what truly left us shocked was the revelation within the Rashtratej Marathi News video. According to their report, the events in question took place in Depoli village in Bhiwandi. According to Rashtratej Marathi News, a group of Christian missionaries had arrived in the village with the purported intent of converting Hindus. This prompted the villagers to take matters into their own hands and confront the missionaries, resulting in the shocking altercation captured in the video.

After this, we came across another video posted by Zee Odisha News on October 6, 2023. The visuals in this video also closely mirrored those shared by Crime Reports India. According Zee Odisha News, a group of individuals, allegedly associated with missionary activities, ventured into a village with the intention of converting the religious beliefs of the local residents. However, Villagers got angry and expressed their dissent in a unique manner by beating the Christian missionaries with sandals.

Hence, all these points prove that the group of individuals initially labeled as Christian social workers by Crime Reports India were, in fact, Christian missionaries with a different purpose altogether. These Christian missionaries came to the village with the aim of converting its residents to Christianity as a result they were assaulted by the villagers.
