Recently, a video has been circulating on social media showing a large crowd engaged in a violent protest, including stone-pelting and chaos. It is being claimed that thousands of ‘Gen Z protesters’ took to the streets in Noida, leading to clashes with the police, during which Uttar Pradesh Police opened fire, resulting in the death of 14 people and injuries to 32 others.
Sharing the video the handle Anushi Tiwari wrote, ”Thousands of Gen Z protesters took to the streets in Noida, #Uttarapradesh Violent clashes broke out, @Uppolice opened fire. In our fact-checking research, we extracted keyframes from the videos and conducted a reverse image search. Through this process, we found the same video posted by ANI dated April 13, 2026. According to the video’s description, the visuals show a large number of garment workers in Noida’s Phase 2 Hosiery Complex staging a protest over demands for salary increments.
Upon further investigation, we also conducted keyword searches on Google using terms such as “Garment Workers protest in Noida” and found a report by India Today. According to the report, a protest took place in Noida on April 13, 2026, involving a large number of factory and garment workers, mainly from the Phase-2 Hosiery Complex and surrounding industrial areas. The workers were protesting for higher wages, salary revisions, better working conditions, and issues related to overtime. In some areas, the protest later turned violent, with incidents of stone-pelting, road blockages, vandalism, and arson, but no confirmed deaths have been reported so far.
In conclusion, the claim that a Gen Z protest in Noida led to police firing, resulting in 14 deaths and 32 injuries, is misleading. In reality, the incident was a factory workers’ protest in the Phase-2 Industrial Area over wage-related demands, including higher wages and better working conditions. There are no official reports confirming any deaths.
