No, the viral vote-rigging video is not from Gujarat but Bengal

Amid Gujarat Assembly polls, a Twitter handle with the name Shadab who is a supporter of the Aam Aadmi Party, shared a video via a tweet on December 1, 2022, claiming that the BJP is rigging the Gujarat elections. Along with the vote-rigging video, he also wrote, “This is the real face of the BJP; they want to win elections by doing such lowly acts, this is how they manage EVMs; this is a mockery of democracy.”

Fact Check

In our research, we found that the people in the video are talking in Bangla and not in Hindi or Gujarati. So, taking that as a cue with the help of keyword search “Vote rigging in Bengal elections,” we came across a similar video uploaded on the TV9 Bangla YouTube channel on February 27, 2022. We found out that it is the same video from which the clip, which was tweeted by Shadab, was taken. But the catch is that the video is 9 months old and is from the West Bengal Municipal elections.

Along with this, we also came across a similar video posted by the official Twitter page of BJP Bengal and West Bengal Congress in which both parties are accusing Trinamool Congress (TMC) of vote rigging.

Hence, it is clear that the claim made by the Aam Aadmi Party supporter Shadab is fake and Misleading as the vote-rigging video he posted is from the West Bengal Municipal elections and not from the Gujarat Assembly polls
