No, the viral video of the Naked Men Protest is not from Manipur
On July 21, 2023, The Blunt Times, a news media portal, shared a video that instantly grabbed attention and sparked controversy. In the video, several men were seen participating in a rather unusual form of protest – they were standing naked on a road while holding placards. The video was accompanied by the headline “Naked men protest in Raipur”.
However, what added to the intrigue was the presence of certain hashtags used by The Blunt Times in their post. These hashtags, such as #ManipurViolence, #ManipurVideo, #ManipurBurning, #Modi_ka_Gussa, #ModiDisasterForIndia, #BJPFailsIndia, and #ManipurHorror, seemed to suggest a connection between the video and Manipur. Moreover, by including references to the ruling party in India, the post appeared to hint that BJP and PM Modi is responsible for this protest.
Another Twitter handle name Troy Jackson shared the similar video and wrote, “See how people are protesting for #Manipur unexpected behavior”. He also used hashtags like #Manipur, #नरेंद्र_मोदी_इस्तीफा_दो, suggesting that the video is from Manipur and PM Modi is responsible for this protest.
So, is it true that the video of the naked men protest is from Manipur and that BJP and PM Modi are responsible for this protest? Let’s Fact check.

During our investigation, we first did a reverse video search of the viral video. During this, we came across a report by the Times of India, published on July 19, 2023, which showcased the exact same video. However, what we discovered was nothing short of shocking – the reality of the video was quite different from the initial assumptions.
Contrary to the hashtags and implications suggested in the viral video’s previous description, the report revealed that the footage was, in fact, from Raipur, Chhattisgarh. It captured a heated protest that erupted in the capital city on July 18. In an unconventional and attention-grabbing move, a group of men staged a nude demonstration to demand action against specific government employees.
Their grievances centered around the alleged use of fake caste certificates to secure government jobs. This revelation triggered widespread outrage, exposing the abuse of such documents and raising pertinent questions about the integrity of the government’s employment processes.
After this, we did keyword research with the words, Naked men protest in India. During this, we stumbled upon a report by NDTV, published on July 18, 2023, which further solidified the reality of the viral video. This report, like the previous one, featured the very same visuals of the nude protest. Once again, it confirmed that this attention-grabbing demonstration indeed took place in Chhattisgarh’s capital city, Raipur.
According to the NDTV report, the protest was organized by a group of men belonging to the Schedule Caste and Scheduled Tribes communities. Their protest aimed to demand action against individuals who had allegedly secured government jobs using fake caste certificates. This pressing issue struck a chord with the protesters, triggering their decision to make a powerful statement.
However, the protest did not go unnoticed by the authorities, as the police took more than a dozen protesters into custody during their demonstration.
Hence, all these points prove that the protest of Naked Men did not take place in Manipur nor had any connection to Manipur violence. Instead, the location of this naked protest was in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. Protest was against then state government, a state currently governed by the Congress party.
