On October 24, 2022, propoganda account Prisoners of Conscience India shared an article with the caption ‘Tasleem Ahmed was arrested in connection with communal violence. He has been booked under the anti-terror law, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).’ According to the POC report, Tasleem Ahmed was falsely accused by the Delhi police with others in Delhi riots.
The claim was also endorsed by the Anti-Hindu page, HindutvaWatch which has large follower base.
Fact Check
As the anti-caa protest (which broke out on February 24, 2020) had taken away the lives of 53 people, our team decided to probe the claim made by POC. In our research using the keyword search “Tasleem Ahmed”, we can come across the bail plea of Tasleem Ahmed which was rejected by the Delhi court under Section 439 of CrPc with Section 43D of UAPA in connection to anti-caa riots.
In the bail plea order, Special Public Prosecutor Amit Prasad stated that Tasleem was actively involved with Gulfisha for instigating the Seelampur and Jafrabad protest (one of the accusers of the Delhi riots). He was closely in touch with Umar Khalid, Khalid Saifi, Natasha, and Meeran, and even he was also present at a midnight secret meeting on February 16 and 17, 2020 at Chand Bagh for a Chakka Jam. Further, the SPP said that he was also part of the two Whatsapp groups called “Warrior” and “Aurton Ka Inquilab“.
Moreover, the SPP had further added that Protected witnesses “DELTA” and “JOHNEY” [under the Section164 CrPc] had witnessed that on January 15, 2020, Tasleem along with Gulfisha and other members of Pinjra Tod had sat down at a protest on Seelampur Bus Stop 66 Foota Road. Police tried to remove them, but they were not moving. Tasleem had also joined the midnight meeting for Chand Bagh on February 16 and 17 where people were asked to bring acid and pathar.
Furthermore, SSP said that Another protected witness “SMITH” had said that he saw that on January 15, 2020, from 9 P.M. to 12 A.M. Umar Khalid and Mehbood Pracha were giving speeches and Gulfisha along with Tasleem and others were encouraging the local women of Seelampur-Jafrabad to come outside for the Dharna. They used to tell those women that if they are not carrying the documents then they along with their family will be sent to the detention center.
Lastly, in our research, we came to know that by rejecting the bail plea of Tasleem Ahmed Justice Amitab Rawat announced that Keeping all the things in view, it is believed that all the accusations that are made against Tasleem are prima facie correct. Hence, the bail application stands as disapproval.
The above-stated facts reveal that the claim made by the POC and Anti-Hindu page HindutvaWatch are false with the intention to deceive people by portraying the image of Tasleem as innocent man who runs a coaching centre. However, he was one of the accused behind the death of 53 people in the Delhi riots.
