On November 10, 2022, Akashvani Samachar stated on its Twitter account that the government has changed the Aadhaar guidelines. Under the new guidelines rule Aadhaar holders would now have to renew their Aadhaar card every ten years, and all appropriate papers will have to be provided.

In our research, we came across a statement by the Ministry of Electronics and Technology on pib.gov.in. In a statement issued, the MeitY refuted the media reports claiming renewing Aadhaar card every 10 year is mandatory, rather it stated that Aadhaar card holders are suggested to update their Aadhaar details every 10 years.

In a statement MeitY said, “Residents who had got their Aadhaar issued 10 years ago, and have never updated after that in these years, such Aadhaar number holders are encouraged to get their documents updated. Some news reports have incorrectly reported on Thursday that it has been made mandatory. It is informed to ignore these reports and social media posts.”

It further stated that the recently issued gazette notification also clearly mentions that residents “may” do so on completion of every 10 years. Keeping the documents in Aadhaar updated helps in ease of living, better service delivery, and enables accurate authentication.
