On April 9, 2023, a supporter of the BRS party, Raghuveer Rathode, took to Twitter to share a startling claim about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s spending habits. According to Rathode’s tweet, PM Modi allegedly spent a staggering 110 crore rupees on food over a period of eight years. Besides, he even called it an all-time record.
So, is it true that PM Modi spent 110 crore rupees on food in a period of 8 years? Let’s Fact Check.

In our search for evidence to support the claim made by BRS party supporter Raghuveer Rathode, we scoured media reports but came up empty-handed. However, we did find an interesting piece of information on the official website of the Prime Minister of India i.e (pmindia.gov.in). We discovered links to several RTI (Right to Information) responses related to PM Modi on this website. One such response from 2015 was particularly relevant to the claim made by Raghuveer Rathode. In this response, it was revealed that the cost of PM Modi’s kitchen expenses is not recorded in the government’s accounts, as the Prime Minister himself bears the cost. Moreover, this information can be found on page no. 3 of the RTI response.
Additionally, we found that the RTI response about the expenses of spices and vegetables for PM Modi’s personal kitchen yielded the same answer as the one concerning his overall kitchen expenses. The response stated that the cost of these groceries falls under the purview of the Prime Minister’s personal spending and is not recorded in the government’s accounts.
In conclusion, our investigation into the viral claim made by BRS supporter Raghuveer Rathode reveals that it is false. The assertion that PM Modi booked food worth 110 crore rupees in a period of 8 years is baseless and unsupported by any evidence. On the contrary, the RTI responses we found indicate that PM Modi bears the cost of his kitchen expenses and that the expenditure on his groceries is considered part of his personal spending. Therefore, it is not a burden on the state treasury or recorded in the government’s accounts. As a result, we can confidently state that the claim made by Rathode is without merit and lacks any factual basis.
This highlights the importance of fact-checking and verifying claims before spreading them on social media. Moreover, in today’s age of digital misinformation, it is crucial to rely on credible sources and evidence-based information.
