No, PM Modi did not say “An Army soldier goes to the battlefield in war because he gets a salary for it”

Amid Richa Chadha’s Galwan tweet controversy, on November 25, 2022, DD News Journalist Ashok Shrivastav tweeted “She must have had some compulsions, no one trolls the Indian army just like that”.

He tweeted this in reference to actress Richa Chadha’s 2017 statement in which she said Pakistanis are really warm and that she would love to work in Pakistan. However, to defend Richa Chadha, a Twitter handle with the name Facts check while replying to Ashok Shrivastav’s tweet, tweeted a 12-second video claiming that PM Modi, while he was Gujarat CM, said that an army soldier goes to the battlefield in a war only because he gets a salary for it.

So, is it true that Prime Minister Narendra Modi said an Army soldier goes to the battlefield in a war because he gets paid for it? Let’s fact-check.

In our research, using Google reverse image search, we found a YouTube video. In this video, PM Modi is heard saying that an army soldier goes to the battlefield because he is paid to do so. But wait, that’s not the end. When we watched the full video, we found that PM Modi, further said no, an army soldier is not willing to die on the battlefield because he gets a salary for it; he is willing to die on the battlefield because he loves his country’s soil.

Hence, in the first part of the video, in which he stated that an army soldier goes to the battlefield in war because he is paid for it, was not a statement but a question posed by PM Modi. So, we can say that the video @Facts_chek tweeted in reply to Ashok Shrivastav’s tweet was cropped from the full video to mislead the people. Hence, the claim is fake and misleading.
