In today’s age of social media, misinformation, and fake news spread faster than wildfire, and politicians are often the targets of such propaganda. Besides, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is no exception to this. Every day, it seems that propagandists come up with new ways to peddle fake news against him. Recently, a picture went viral on social media, showing Modi raising his hand for a handshake with Italian PM Giorgia Meloni, while she is doing greetings by joining both hands.
However, a propoganda social activist named Sandeep Singh shared this viral picture and wrote, The culture (Sanskar) of the Prime Minister and the PM of Italy.
Another INC spokesperson Alka Lamba shared the viral picture and wrote, PM of India – PM of Italy, very cultured.
Moreover, another Twitter handle with the name Ravan shared the viral picture and wrote, Sanskar of Sanatani Prime Minister of great India and Prime Minister of European country Italy.
Apart from this, some other Congress supporters like Varun Chaudhary and Tukesh Ratre also made similar comments while sharing the viral picture.
Besides, all these tweets imply that Modi’s actions were somehow unethical or against culture (Sanskar).
So, in this Fact-check article, we will examine the truth behind this viral picture and the claims made by congress supporters.

Fact Check
During our research, we first tried to find out where the viral picture is from. With the help of a reverse image search, we found out that it’s from March 2, 2023, when Italian PM Giorgia Meloni came to India for a two-day visit. Next, we tried to find out where and when exactly the viral picture was taken and whether the above claims of the congress supporters are true or not. During this, we came across a video posted on the official Youtube channel of the Prime Minister’s Office of India on March 2, 2023, with the title, PM Modi at the ceremonial reception of Italian PM Meloni at the Rashtrapati Bhawan.
Furthermore, at the 12-second time frame of this video, we can see PM Modi and Italian PM Giorgia Meloni shaking hands with each other.
Now, moving to the last minute of the video we found the moment where PM Modi is offering his hand for a handshake and Italian PM Giorgia Meloni is greeting PM Modi with both hands at 7 minutes 59 seconds time frame.
Here is the zoom version of the same screenshot.
However, at exactly 8 minutes time frame which is just one second later, we can see both PM Modi and Italian PM Giorgia Meloni shaking hands.
Apart from this, at 8 minutes and 1 second time frame, PM Modi can also be seen greeting Italian PM Giorgia Meloni with both hands while she is going back to sit in her car.
So, the conclusion is that some people cleverly took the screenshot of the moment where PM Modi was offering his hand for a handshake while the Italian PM was still greeting him with both hands and projected it as PM Modi is doing something classless and unethical.
Hence all these points prove that PM Modi didn’t do anything unethical or against culture while meeting and greeting Italian PM Modi.
