In our investigation, we first translated the text written in the magazine clipping.

The translation revealed that the clipping states, “The young man seen in the picture is Narendra Modi of Gujarat BJP. As the General Secretary of his party in the state, he was the driving force behind his party’s massive success. He has been known as a strong organizer since his student days. Although the public knows him as a leader of the Gujarat Navnirman Movement called by Loknayak Jayaprakash in 1974, most of his work has been for the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. In the division, Narendra Modi, a divisional leader of the Sangh, is an engineering graduate who is known in the party as a strong planner and organizer. He is a member of the party’s national committee and has dedicated himself to society.”

Translation of the viral magazine clipping

The magazine clipping talks about PM Modi. There is no mention of any interview with him.

We further discovered that this magazine clipping has gone viral multiple times before, and over the years, the opposition has consistently targeted PM Modi regarding his education. In response to this, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s X handle had made PM Modi’s degree public in 2016. This degree revealed that PM Modi holds a BA and an MA degree.

Apart from this, we also found an article from a news website called You Turn. Through this article, we learned that the viral magazine clipping does not belong to Taranga at all. Taranga’s editor, Dr. U. B. Rajalakshmi, herself denied this, stating that the magazine clipping is not from Taranga.

In conclusion, the viral magazine clipping, which is being shared with the claim that in 1992 PM Modi gave an interview to Taranga magazine stating that he is a mechanical engineer, is fake. This magazine is not from Taranga, and Modi has never claimed to be a mechanical engineer.
