In 1527–1528, the foreign invader Babar ordered the Ram temple at the Ram Janmabhoomi in Ayodhya to be demolished in order to make way for a mosque. Following the Supreme Court’s ruling, Ayodhya’s magnificent Ram temple is currently being built. The consecration program is anticipated to happen on January 22, 2024. Everyone’s gaze is focused on the idol of Ramlala. On social media, some are asserting that Muslims are making the idol of Ram Lalla.
News 24 (Archived link), the propaganda media portal, made a tweet and wrote, “Ramlala is ready to sit in the Ram temple of Ayodhya in January. Bittu, the son of Mohammad Jamaluddin of Bengal, prepared the idols. The father-son team has many years of experience in crafting.” It further quoted Jamaluddin and wrote, “Religion is an individual matter. People following many religions live in our country. As an artist, the culture of brotherhood is my message.”
Radical extremist Wajid Khan (Archived link) wrote, ‘The creators of the idol of Ramlala of Ram temple in Ayodhya are Mohammad Jamaluddin and his son Bittu. Now will BJP people worship that idol or oppose it?”
JDU worker Pratik Patel (Archived link) remarked, ‘In view of national harmony, heartfelt gratitude to Mohammad Jamaluddin and his son Bittu for making the idol of Ramlala in Ayodhya temple! That is a different matter. The idol will thereafter be cleansed with Ganga water, so “you people” need not be concerned about that.”
Jackie Yadav (Archived link) wrote, ‘This is the beauty of our beloved country. In Ayodhya, the grand inauguration of the Ram temple is about to take place. Before that, idols of Lord Shri Ram have been prepared. The idols are created by Mohammed Jamaluddin and his son Bittu from West Bengal. Mohammad Jamaluddin has made huge statues not only of Lord Shri Ram but also of Maa Durga and Maa Jagadhatri.”
Satya Prakash Bharti (Archived link) wrote, ‘The idol of Ram made which will be installed in the sanctum sanctorum are being made by Muslim sculptors. The Ramlala’s idol, crafted by Mohammad Jamaluddin and his son Bittu, will be placed in the Ayodhya Ram temple.”
Congress leader Dr. Arunesh Yadav (Archived link) wrote, “The creators of Ramlala idol of the Ayodhya temple are Mohammad Jamaluddin and his son Bittu. Thought I should tell the cow dung experts.”
Congress supporter Aparna Aggarwal (Archived link) wrote, ‘”The makers of the idol of Ramlala of Ram temple in Ayodhya are Mohammad Jamaluddin and his son Bittu. After hearing this, the blind people shouldn’t be attacked out of hatred.”
Retired IAS Surya Pratap Singh (Archived link) sarcastically wrote, “Couldn’t any Hindu craftsman be found who could get the statue of Ramlala made by Muslim craftsmen? The same Muslims who keep spitting while eating and drinking, those who make punctures. How will you purify the idol of Ramlala? How can a blind devotee garland the idol made by a Muslim? For them, drowning has become a death sentence.”
In the start of our research, we first ran a keyword search on Google related to the matter and found a report from Aaj Tak. According to this report published on December 7, 2023, for consecration in the Ram temple three statues are being prepared. Out of these three, only one idol will be installed in the Ayodhya temple.
Moreover, Trust General Secretary Champat Rai disclosed that the three sculptures, each made from two rocks, were brought from Rajasthan and Karnataka. The sculptures are 90 percent ready and are being given final touches. On December 15, the best out of these three idols, will be selected and that idol will be consecrated in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple. The idols are being crafted by Ganesh Bhatt, Arun Yogiraj and Satyanarayan Pandey.
The Print and Jagran reports also reported the same and stated that the statues have been made by sculptors Ganesh Bhatt of Karnataka, Arun Yogiraj of Jaipur and Satyanarayan Pandey.
In further research, we found a contact information on the website of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Trust. We contacted them and spoke to Aditya. He told us that the Hindu community members are crafting the idol of Ramlala. Out of these three, the best one will be selected. What is going viral on social media has not been claimed by the Trust.
Following this, we were able to get Trust General Secretary Champat Rai’s mobile number via his Facebook profile. On contacting, we spoke to Champat Rai’s associate Dharamveer. He told us that the idol of Ramlala is being made by Ganesh Bhatt, Arun Yogiraj, Satyanarayan Pandey, all three are making different idols, the best of them will be selected. The Lord Ram temple will have many idols, however neither Bittu nor Muhammad Jamaluddin are creating the idol of Ramlala.
So, it is clear from the investigation that the idol of Ramlala is being made by Ganesh Bhatt, Arun Yogiraj, Satyanarayan Pandey. The claim that the idol is being made by a Muslim craftsman is false.
