No, MS Dhoni didn’t say he will sacrifice his medal in support of wrestlers

The ongoing Wrestlers protest against BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh is taking a new turn every day. We all are aware that Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat accused him of sexual harassment and later Bajrang Punia and other wrestlers joined them in the alleged controversial protest. Many wrestlers, veteran players of the sports fraternity and celebrities are coming out in support and demanding justice for wrestlers. Twitter user karishma Aziz shared a tweet claiming that the famous cricketer, MS Dhoni has come in their support. The user had taken the post from Bolta Hindustan, according to the watermark on the infographic.

Apart from that the another user going by the handle name Pankaj Sharma, sharing the infographic wrote, “Being an admirer of Dhoni, I am proud of him. Are you too his admirer?” The tweet has garnered 8.3k likes so far.

Fact Check

We began our research by digging into the social media accounts of MS Dhoni to check whether he has posted anything in support of wrestlers or not. We were not able to find any post or tweet as claimed by Twitter users. To be sure, we also searched for new websites and sports pages but there is no such article claiming that Dhoni has come out in support of the wrestlers’ protest.

The last post made by MS Dhoni on his Instagram profile is 17 weeks ago. There was no recent post.

Dhoni posted a video promoting an advertisement three days ago on his Facebook page, but we did not find any posts supporting the wrestler’s protest.

Further, with the keyword search of ‘MS Dhoni on Wrestler protest’ on Google, we found that a few days ago it was Sakshi Malik who congratulated Dhoni and his team Chennai for winning the IPL 2023, stating that at least some sportspersons are getting respect and love while we are fighting for justice.

With a similar keyword search on YouTube, we found a video where Bajrang Punia is briefing media reporters that no active playing player has come out in support of their protest he further from 0:45 seconds said that “Mahendra Singh Dhoni ke taraf se koi madad karne nahi aaya”, we request him to support us.

Moreover, considering that MS Dhoni prefers to keep his life lowkey and has never involved himself in any of the ongoing controversies in the country by voicing his opinion or in any way, it is unlikely that he would have spoken in support of the wrestlers.

Given that Bolta Hindustan’s watermark appears on the post that Twitter users shared, we looked through that account’s Twitter profile and found a similar tweet. According to the tweet, the statement was given by Boxer turned Congress politician, Vijendra Singh, and not MS Dhoni.

The aforementioned information clearly indicates that MS Dhoni has not made any statement in support of the alleged wrestler protest. The original infographic had an image of Vijendra Singh, which Twitter users altered to place a picture of Dhoni.
