On February 10, 2024, Rajendra Kumbhat, a vocal critic of PM Modi, shared intriguing information on X. He wrote, Kashi Vishwanath Temple will hire 50,000 priests (no, there is no typographical error, the number is indeed 50,000). The three categories will draw a monthly salary of ₹90,000, ₹70,000 and ₹45,000, depending on seniority. Amrit Kaal results in another major employment avenue besides Pakoda frying.
An X handle named Melang’n quoted Rajendra’s tweet and wrote, Will we have dalit priests?? All this temple sentiment is only for brahmins f#ck right off.
So, is it true that Kashi Vishwanath Temple will hire 50,000 priests? let’s Fact Check.
During our investigation, we first did a keyword research with the relevant keywords. During this, we stumbled upon a noteworthy report by Amar Ujala, dated February 8, 2024. According to this report, the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple is gearing up to appoint 50 priests. The chief priest is slated to receive an honorarium of Rs 90,000, the junior priest Rs 80,000, and the assistant Rs 65,000. Moreover, advertisements will also be issued for appointment.
Following our investigation, we came across a report by Aajtak, dated February 9, 2024. This report echoes the earlier findings, confirming the appointment of 50 priests in the Kashi Vishwanath Temple of Varanasi. Moreover, according to this report, the chief priest at the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple will receive an honorarium of Rs 90,000. Simultaneously, the junior priest is slated for Rs 80,000, and the assistant priest will be granted Rs 65,000.
Furthermore, we came across a report by Patrika dated February 9, 2024. This report also echoes the earlier ones, affirming that there will be a total of 50 positions for priests at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, and advertisements will be issued for these roles. The chief priest at the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple will receive an honorarium of Rs 90,000, the junior priest will get Rs 80,000, and the assistant priest will be granted Rs 65,000.
Notably, this report, like the others, makes no mention of the claim put forth by Rajendra Kumbhat, who asserted that the Kasi Vishwanath Temple would hire a staggering 50,000 priests. Every report we’ve encountered so far uniformly states that only 50 priests are slated to be appointed in Kashi Vishwanath Temple.
Hence, all these points prove that the assertion made by Rajendra Kumbhat – that the Kasi Vishwanath Temple will hire 50,000 priests – is, in fact, false and misleading as only 50 priests are slated to be appointed in the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple.
