No, Donald Trump Did Not Say This About India’s Loans Under Modi
A postcard attributed to Navbharat Times is going viral on social media. It features a statement by Donald Trump about loans given to India. The claim suggests that no previous Indian Prime Minister had taken as much debt as Narendra Modi. It is being widely shared to question India’s economic position. However, a fact-check shows that this claim is fake.
Vinita Yadav wrote on X, “We have given a lot of loans to India. No previous Prime Minister has taken this much debt. What does India’s PM do with so much money?” — Donald Trump.
Kavish Aziz wrote, “My friend Donald Trump…”
Shekhar Khare wrote, “Sangh, BJP, and their affiliated organisations, along with Narendra Modi and his close associates, needed to build grand offices, houses, and farmhouses. After struggling for decades and finally gaining power, they are now enjoying the luxuries of power.”
Similarly, Seth Sahab and Mumtaz also shared the postcard with the same claim.

To verify the claim, we conducted a keyword search but found no record of Donald Trump making any such statement about Narendra Modi. We then reviewed the official social media pages of Navbharat Times, but the viral postcard was not found on any of their platforms.
Upon further investigation, we compared the viral postcard with the original postcards from Navbharat Times and found that the font in the viral postcard does not match the original. The font styles in both postcards are clearly different. This clearly indicates that the postcard is fake.
