A video is circulating on Pakistani social media claiming that an Indian soldier named Ram Babu was killed during a Pakistani military strike on the Adampur Airbase. It further alleges that Ram Babu was an operator of India’s S-400 air defense system. These claims are being shared to support the Pakistani Army’s assertion that it targeted and struck an S-400 system at the Adampur base. However, our investigation found this claim to be false.
Defence Pakistan claimed, ‘Indian media reports the killing of soldier Rambabu Singh during Pakistan’s military strikes on Adampur Air Base. He was an operator of the S-400 air defense system.’
Gurpreet Sahota asserted, ‘This news sheds light on destroying of S-400.’
Mahaz wrote, ‘According to “Firstbihar”, (indian local Hindi news), Rambabu Singh from Bihar, an operater of S-400 system, has been killed, in a Pakistani attack. Notably, Pakistani security forces was claimed that, their missiles successfully targeted the S-400 defence system in indian Punjab.’
Imshee, Crime Reports India, and Mohsin Mumtaz shared a similar claim.

We began our fact-checking process by reviewing credible news reports related to the claim. An article published by The Indian Express on May 14, 2025, reported that Bihar mourned the loss of BSF jawan Ram Babu Singh, who succumbed to injuries sustained during Pakistan’s cross-border shelling along the Jammu and Kashmir border. He was critically injured in the shelling on Friday and passed away late Monday night. His mortal remains were expected to reach his native village, Basilpur in Siwan district, on Wednesday.
According to the report, Singh had recently married his wife, Anjali, and the couple was expecting a child. On the morning of his death, he had spoken to his wife at 10 AM. Singh’s father-in-law added that he was originally posted to Jodhpur but was retained in Jammu and Kashmir due to rising tensions between India and Pakistan.
Further confirmation came from a News18 report dated May 13, 2025. It stated that on May 9, during a ceasefire, Pakistan abruptly opened fire along the Jammu border, leading to the death of Ram Babu Singh. The report also mentioned that grief enveloped Basilpur village after news of his martyrdom broke. His family traveled to Jammu and Kashmir to receive his mortal remains, and he was to be laid to rest with full state honors in his native village.
Both The Indian Express and News18 clearly establish that BSF jawan Ram Babu Singh died in Jammu and Kashmir on May 9 during a ceasefire violation by Pakistan. In contrast, claims circulating on Pakistani social media allege that he was killed at the Adampur Air Base in Jalandhar, Punjab, while operating the S-400 air defense system.
Moreover, it is important to note that the BSF (Border Security Force) is a paramilitary force under the Ministry of Home Affairs, tasked with border security and internal law enforcement. The S-400 is a highly advanced, long-range surface-to-air defence system operated exclusively by the Indian Air Force (IAF). The IAF, with its specialized training and strategic capabilities, is the only force authorized to handle the deployment and operation of the S-400 system.
