On March 8, the world observed International Women’s Day and paid tribute to iconic female role models who motivate them. While some paid tribute to their ideals, others, under the guise of Women’s Day and empowerment, propagated their anti-India agenda and paid tribute to females who are posing danger for the country.
Elliot Alderson, a Twitter user, penned a lengthy thread in which he talked about a few Kashmiri Muslim female prisoners. The user claimed that the female prisoners Asiya Andrabi, Sofi Mehmeeda, Nahida Nasreen, Insha Jan, Naseema Bano, and Hina Bashir are being held unlawfully because they are Kashmiri Muslims with different political views.
Besides, another Twitter user Kash Mir, also claimed that these women are being illegally held in various jails in India.
Are these women really kept behind bars just because they are Kashmiri Muslims or the truth is being suppressed? Lets fact check the claim.

We started our research with a keyword search and came across a report by India Today. As per the report in 2010, Asiya Andrabi, a separatist and her aide Fehmeeda were arrested at their home. Asiya is the terrorist group Dukhtaran-e-Millat’s (DeM) chief and the wife of a Hizbul Mujahideen leader.
Moreover, Asiya was spearheading the Quit Kashmir Movement and fueled many protest across Kashmir at the time causing unrest. Also, she directs pro-Pakistani activism and secession of Kashmir from India. Asiya and Fehmeeda were arrested on charges of inciting violence and waging war against India.
Besides, DeM chief was arrested again in 2015 by Jammu and Kashmir police in connection with a case filed against her under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act for raising the Pakistani flag and addressing a rally in Pakistan via phone. She is also said to be associated with the Mumbai terror attack mastermind.
In 2017, Asiya’s aide, DeM general secretary Nahida Nasreen, was also arrested after the police searched her residence. Nahida, along with the DeM chief and Fehmeeda, were subsequently arrested in 2018 under different IPC provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
Furthermore, according to the NIA’s press release, they have been using various media platforms to disseminate insurrectional imputations and hateful speeches advocating the use of violence against India. Additionally, on November 14, 2018, the NIA filed a chargesheet against these three DeM terrorists.
The Dukhtaran-e-Millat is an extremist terror group run by women outfit in Kashmir. Asiya Andrabi, a radical feminist, leads it. According to the South Asia Terrorism Portal, the DeM promotes and work for the ideology of Kashmir’s separation from India and accession to Pakistan. Moreover, the DeM is banned by the Indian government.
DeM is said to have been affiliated with the ISI and to have received funds from them through hawala channels in order to carry out terror operations. Also, the DeM is the Lashkar-e-Taiba’s shadow terror group, operating in Kashmir region for carrying out terror activities in India.
The NIA arrested a father-daughter duo in 2020 for their involvement in the Pulwama attack, which killed 40 CRPF troops on February 14.
Moreover, Tariq Ahmed and his daughter Insha Jan, both Pulwama locals, had provided shelter to the Pakistani terrorists, who executed the Pulwama attack. They facilitated the terrorists at their residence by providing meals and other logistical support during their stay. Furthermore, Insha Jan was in constant contact with Mohd Umar Farooq, a Pakistani IED builder, via phone and other social media apps.
Apart from that, Naseema Bano is the mother of the Hizbul terrorist and, she was arrested on June 20, 2020, on charges of recruiting two teenagers into militant ranks and organizing weapons and supplies for militants and terrorists.
Lastly, according to the Hindustan Times report, the NIA arrested Hina Bashir and her husband for plotting to cause unrest in India during the CAA protest. Both are ISIS followers and are connected with ISIS/ISKP. They were in constant touch with them prior to their capture.
They were plotting, with the aid of ISIS, to urge Muslim youth to instigate violence against Hindus under the guise of the CAA protest and to carry out mass killings to further the activities of ISIS/ISKP in India.
Hence, all of these female prisoners were arrested not because of their religious identification or political beliefs, but because they were affiliated with terror groups while carrying out terror activities in India and preparing to call for jihad.
