Fabricated ANI tweet falsely claims PM Modi was excluded from G7 group photo
The G7 summit is taking place in Alberta, Canada from June 15-17. On June 17, PM Modi arrived in Calgary to attend the summit. This was his sixth consecutive appearance as a guest nation representative at the G7 summit, as India is not a member of the G7.
Meanwhile, a photo from the summit has gone viral in which G7 leaders are posing for a group photo, with PM Modi notably absent. This was circulated with the claim that although PM Modi was invited to the summit, he was deliberately excluded from the group photo. However, the truth is that the group photo was only for G7 members and since India is not a member, PM Modi was not in the photo.
Following this, a screenshot of a tweet allegedly by ANI is going viral. The tweet appears to show ANI posting the same photo with a caption, “PM Modi was invited to the G7 summit, but he was not invited to the stage?” This screenshot is being circulated with a claim that it was posted by the official handle of ANI and has since been deleted.
Sharing the screenshot, Alok Sharma wrote, “ANI deleted the tweet, perhaps the respect for the ‘Vishwaguru’ was looking a little less in the picture.” (archived link)
Puneet Kumar Singh claimed, “The tweet was deleted because Modi ji has been sidelined. Now Chitra will say that this is an edited photo.” (archived link)
Atul Londhe stated, “ANI did take a stand but then a call came and they deleted it.” (archived link)
User Siddhart asserted, “Did BJP IT Cell forget to log out before tweeting from ANI? That tweet’s gone now, but the internet never forgets Nice try, Smita Prakash.” (archived link)
The same image was also shared by many other handles like IP Singh (archived link), Ashok Kumar Pandey (archived link), Surbhi (archived link), Trilok (archived link), Manish Kumar Yadav (archived link), Chandan Singh Yadav(archived link), and Ram Bhakt (archived link).
