A newspaper cutting claims that a survey found that 70% of people do not like to watch Prime Minister Modi on television. They reportedly prefer to change the channel when Modi appears on screen. The headline of the newspaper reads: “70% People Don’t Even Want to See Modi!” The content in the newspaper states that an organization keeping a close eye on the political field and the influence of the media conducted the survey. The purpose of the survey was to gauge the popularity of Prime Minister Modi among the general public. The participants in the survey represented different age groups, social backgrounds, and both urban and rural areas. The findings concluded that 70% of people choose to change channels upon seeing the Prime Minister’s face on TV. Many attributed this to political fatigue, one-sided media coverage, or the constant portrayal of the Prime Minister.

Fact Check

In our fact-check report, we conducted a keyword search on Google and found a similar report published on the website of Hindi Samana on 11 October 2024. The content in the newspaper clipping is similar to the content in the report, including the language and phrasing used. However, the report does not mention the name of the organization that conducted the survey.

Apart from this, there is no information available online about this alleged survey from any credible source. It was found that no mainstream media or reputable research institute has published this survey.

However, on the contrary, we found another report published by Jansatta in 2016. According to the report, a survey was conducted between July 25, 2016, and August 7, 2016, by the news app Inshorts. It was reported that ‘70% of Indians want to see Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister again in 2019.’ This information came from an online poll. According to the survey, the percentage of women was lower than that of men. The poll found that 64 percent of women wanted to see Modi as the PM again. The survey was conducted by the news app Inshorts, and 63,141 people answered the question. Of them, 70 percent said yes, 17 percent said no, and 13 percent said they didn’t know.

Apart from this, another survey was recently conducted by Ipsos-Indiabuzz, which measures public opinion on various social and political issues in India. The report about the survey was published by Ipsos on December 1, 2024, which focused on the public approval of PM Modi. The survey findings revealed that 70% of people approve of Modi’s leadership and performance. The report mentions that PM Modi has maintained a 70% approval rating for three consecutive rounds (May, August and November 2024), reflecting high and persistent approval from citizens.

In conclusion, the claim that 70 per cent of people do not want to see Modi on television screens is baseless and lacks credibility. There are no authentic media reports or reliable survey data to support this claim. On the contrary, 2016 survey data conducted through online polls showed that Modi’s popularity is quite high, with 70 per cent of respondents wanting him to become Prime Minister again in 2019.
